The quick-thinking actions of Macomb County Deputies Nicole Miron and Anthony Gross likely prevented what could have been a tragic situation on Sept. 12 in Mount Clemens, Michigan.
The dramatic rescue was captured on both traffic cameras and bodycam footage and shows the deputies’ quick decision-making in action as they worked together to stop a moving vehicle that was endangering others on the road.

The incident began when the Macomb County Sheriff’s Office received a report of a silver GMC Sierra traveling erratically at approximately 5 miles per hour on Gratiot Avenue.
According to Deputy Miron, they were able to track the vehicle’s location thanks to a caller who was following the truck and providing updates to authorities.
When deputies Miron and Gross caught up to the vehicle, they realized something was wrong. As they pulled up next to the truck, the 63-year-old driver, appearing confused and in a daze, did not respond to their commands to stop.
“It clearly was some sort of medical issue,” Miron said in an interview with Good Morning America. Recognizing the potential danger posed by the slow-moving vehicle on a busy road, the deputies quickly formulated a plan.
The bodycam footage shows Miron instructing the driver to “stay there” as she made the bold decision to climb from the patrol car into the passenger seat of the moving truck.
Her goal was to stop the vehicle before it reached a heavily trafficked intersection.
“I want to get him stopped before we entered that area because I didn’t know if he could hit somebody else or if they wouldn’t see him and hit him,” Miron explained. “It could have been a lot worse.”
As Deputy Gross carefully maneuvered the patrol car alongside the truck, Miron climbed through the window from her vehicle and into the passenger side of the truck.
Once inside, she quickly assessed the situation and safely brought the vehicle to a stop.
“You good? You OK?” Miron is heard asking the driver in the bodycam footage, showing her calm under pressure. “Is this park?” she asks before finally bringing the truck to a halt.
The driver, who had suffered a medical emergency, was transported to a local hospital for treatment. The Macomb County Sheriff’s Office later confirmed that the driver has since returned home and is recovering.
Sheriff Anthony Wickersham praised the actions of both deputies, particularly highlighting Deputy Miron’s bravery in risking her safety to save the driver and protect other motorists.
“I’m proud of both of the deputies for their actions. I consider them heroes,” Wickersham said. He added, “Due to her quick thinking and selfless actions, she safely ended what could have been a tragic situation.”
Deputy Gross, who had been driving the patrol car while Miron carried out the rescue, recounted the challenges of keeping the scene safe during the incident. “I was worried about trying to keep him safe and us safe, and with the heavy traffic in the area, and trying to stay as close as I could so that we could handle the situation,” he said.
For Miron, the moment felt surreal. “It felt like time stood still,” she said, acknowledging the pressure of the situation and the urgency to stop the vehicle before reaching the busy intersection.
The heroic actions of Deputies Miron and Gross stand as a testament to the dedication and bravery of law enforcement officers.
The Macomb County Sheriff’s Office expressed pride in how their deputies responded to the situation, and the story has drawn praise from across the country as it circulated online and on news broadcasts.
The successful outcome of the incident is a reminder of the crucial role police officers play in protecting the public, often putting themselves in harm’s way to save others.
The deputies’ quick thinking and teamwork undoubtedly averted a much more dangerous situation.
