Among the calls was one from the wife of a 74-year-old victim, James Copenhaver, who had been critically wounded at the rally, as reported by Fox News.

The woman frantically told the dispatcher that her husband had been shot but she had no idea where he had been taken.

“Paramedics serviced him,” she said, noting she had already called the hospital with no luck. The dispatcher urged her to remain on the line.

Other calls captured the panic that gripped the crowd after gunman Thomas Matthew Crooks opened fire, discharging approximately eight shots.

One call came in with the chilling message: “Gunshots. Gunshots at the Trump rally.”

Another voice is heard, “We’re at the Trump assembly, and there’s a guy shooting!”

The atmosphere was pure pandemonium as rally-goers scrambled for safety, unsure if they were still under threat.

The gunman, Crooks, had climbed onto the roof of a nearby building, outside of the rally’s security perimeter but within 200 yards of where Trump was speaking.

Before the attack, a Beaver County sniper snapped a photo of a suspicious man with a range finder near the AGR building.

That man turned out to be Crooks. The sniper relayed the information to the Pennsylvania State Police, but the shooting took place just over an hour later.

The attack left one man dead and several others injured, including Trump, who was grazed by a bullet.

On July 13, 2024, a gunman fired eight rounds at the former president and Republican presidential nominee during a rally in Butler. Trump was grazed by a bullet in the attack, and Pennsylvania firefighter Corey Comperatore was killed as he tried to shield his family from the attack. Two other men were injured.

Crooks, however, was quickly neutralized thanks to the swift actions of law enforcement. A local officer spotted where the shots were coming from and fired a single round, forcing Crooks to fall out of sight temporarily.

A Secret Service counter sniper then delivered the fatal shot, bringing the deadly situation to an end.

Earlier that day, Crooks had parked his car and flown a drone in the area between 3:50 and 4 p.m., positioning himself for the attack.

FBI Director Christopher Wray testified before Congress that Crooks had been scouting the rally site for over an hour before firing his first shot.

Investigators later found eight shell casings on the roof where Crooks had been perched, revealing the extent of his preparation for the attack.

Despite the horror of that day, Trump escaped relatively unharmed, but the memory of the assassination attempt lingers.
