This ‘Illustrates Exactly Why’ Kamala Is ‘In Trouble’ [WATCH]

Pollster Frank Luntz criticized Kamala Harris’s performance during her CNN town hall on Wednesday, pointing to one of her responses as a clear example of why her campaign is struggling.

Vice President Kamala Harris speaks during a campaign rally on Oct. 17, 2024, at the Resch Expo in Ashwaubenon, Wis.

During the event, CNN anchor Anderson Cooper asked Harris whether she supports building a border wall.

Instead of giving a direct answer, Harris quickly pivoted to attacking former President Donald Trump, a move Luntz said highlights the flaws in her campaign strategy.

Speaking on CNBC’s “Squawk Box” on Thursday, Luntz explained that Harris missed an opportunity to clearly communicate her stance on border security. “I think that clip illustrates exactly why Harris is in trouble at this point, and it’s something that I don’t understand why the campaign does not address,” Luntz said. “They asked her specifically, ‘Where do you stand on the wall?’ And what does she do? She goes and shifts it right to Donald Trump, immediately mentions him twice within the first five seconds.”

Luntz added that Harris has failed to clearly outline her policy plans, which is hurting her chances in the final stretch of the campaign. “She still hasn’t closed the deal. She still hasn’t said to people exactly what she would do,” he said. “What she should have done in the opening of that town hall is said, ‘I want to tell you what I’m going to do in the first hour, in the first day, and in the first week.’”

CNBC host Andrew Ross Sorkin pressed Luntz on how Harris could have better handled Cooper’s question about the border wall.

Luntz responded that Harris should have laid out a compromise that would appeal to both progressives and moderates. “She’s supposed to say, ‘Within the first 24 hours, I’m going to introduce legislation that supports the wall. And supports the DREAM Act for progressives who want people who came in through no fault of their own and improves illegal immigration so more people can come here the right way.’”

Harris has previously referred to Trump’s border wall as a “medieval vanity project” and criticized it as “stupid.”

However, during the town hall, Cooper reminded her of her previous comments while questioning her current stance.

Harris now supports a bipartisan border bill introduced in February, which allocates hundreds of millions in unspent public funds for further construction of the border wall.

As her campaign winds down, Harris has shifted her messaging from a focus on positivity to portraying Trump as a threat to the country.

However, Luntz warned that focusing too much on attacking Trump could backfire. “She will fail to secure an election victory if she’s just beating up on Donald Trump,” Luntz said.

Recent polling data from RealClearPolitics shows that Trump holds narrow leads over Harris in the top seven battleground states, raising the stakes for both campaigns as Election Day approaches.
