The Stench of Panic Is In the Air on Social Media

Things like this use to bother me, but I have been hardened by spending two years glued to Twitter/X. 

As you might imagine, Twitter is vital to my job. It is where EVERYTHING shows up first. Within seconds of something happening, you see it on Twitter/X. There is a lot of BS on there too, and I like to joke that my Twitter feed is like a sewer with diamonds scattered among the muck. 

There are tons of liars, rumor mongers, journalists (same thing, really, as the liars and rumor mongers), influencers, citizen journalists, and normal people all thrown together. You can learn a lot but also get infuriated if you take the trolls (and journalists) too seriously. 

You can learn a lot by looking at the stream of information, commentary, articles, studies, polls, and nuggets of information that flow in the intertubes on Twitter. And the thing that I have learned this week, and especially the last couple of days, is that on the left what was concern about the direction of the election has turned into raw panic. 

I’m not talking about the fear that they might lose this election. They are PANICKED as in total freakout mode. 

Democrats like to joke that they are always in a panic, but that isn’t really true. Every party has its worrywarts, of course, but Democrats are generally pretty good at creating and maintaining narratives that are at least marginally plausible. A friend of mine, Mitch Berg, likes to call the narrative “chanting points” rather than talking points because the left chants The Narrative™ like a magic incantation that creates a new reality. 

It often works. Think of what they did during COVID. 

There is plenty of chanting going on, but while there are groups clearly coordinating with each other to push narratives, there are several going at once, like they are just picking up pieces of horse s**t and throwing them against the wall to see if any sticks. It is fast and furious and increasingly hysterical. 

If you think CBS has been pushing absurdities and that The Atlantic is spewing multiple streams of BS to help Kamala Harris, you ain’t seen nothing yet. The “journalists” on Twitter are doing the HITLERSTALINMUSSOLINI shtick, TRUMPISARAPIST shtick, TRUMPISAPEDO shtick, SEALTEAMSIX IS GOING TO KILL EVERYONE shtick, and, of course, RUSSIARUSSIARUSSIA is back with a vengeance. 

My favorite is the Lincoln Project’s “Kamala Harris is going everywhere, meeting everyone, and answering every question.” It is so absurd as to be a self-parody. Kamala Harris has practically taken the week off, and the only scheduled campaign appearances I know of are concerts by Bruce Springsteen with special guest Barack Obama. And Beyonce. And Spike Lee. 

Actually, these are celebrity events with special guest, character actor Kamala Harris. 

She is so bad at answering questions that they may have given up on the idea. 

I mean, really, can anything be more ridiculous?

It’s not just trolls. High-level Democrats are reeking of flop sweat. And when one of them is J.B. Pritzker, you know that smells awful. 

I have never seen such a stream of invective, hoaxes, simple lies, and false outrage as I have on my Twitter feed lately. It really is striking, especially since a stream of invective, hoaxes, lies, and false outrage are a normal part of Twitter life. It is as if a trickle turned into a flood. 

There is something perversely satisfying about seeing Jennifer Rubin’s last five brain cells explode. She has been insane for years, but the past month has been a thing of beauty to watch because her version of insanity, once you quit taking it seriously, is actually hilarious. She has become so psychotic that it is actually entertaining to watch. 

Think Andy Kaufman, 

Even CNN hosts panned Harris’ Town Hall, but Jennifer Rubin thought Harris gave nonstop Gettysburg addresses as she persuaded the entire country that she was the next Lincoln. Or, perhaps she was talking about the Cheney/Harris dialog. Who knows? Harris is always brilliant in her mind, and Trump is Hitler. 

I mean, really? Are you going with that? Harris can barely say a coherent sentence. 

Jennifer Rubin is upset that the corporate media is carrying so much water for Trump. They hardly say a negative thing about him while they trash Kamala Harris. 

“Why the media is helping Trump.” You have to love it. It’s almost stand-up quality stuff. 

The MSNBC clips are hilarious, too. 

The insanity is everywhere. They are dumping every bit of oppo research, rumors, bulls**t, and invective they can muster. They barely focus on Harris (with the exception of Rubin, who entertains us with fantasies that Harris is smart and articulate). It’s nonstop Trump hatred at a level that I have NEVER seen. 

That is saying a lot. They have been attacking Trump for a decade. 

The Atlantic is nonstop Trump insanity. There’s no point in going through it all because, well, it is the same old s**t repackaged. 

Jamie Raskin has pledged to get Congress to overturn the election results if Trump wins. 

I still can’t get over how the leftists unselfconsciously accuse Trump of doing exactly what they have been doing to him. The lawfare has been constant against Trump, and now we are being warned that if Trump wins, he will prosecute his enemies. 

Then there is psychotic George Conway, who is always entertaining. He found some doctors (who should lose their medical licenses) claiming that Trump is insane or something. I didn’t bother to read his press release because…well, you know why. It is so tiresome. 

You can watch the ad if you can stomach it. I leave it to your judgment whether you want to watch this drivel. I didn’t. I can guess what a Conway-approved doctor would say. I share it because maybe someone needs a good guffaw this morning. 

I keep saying that you shouldn’t count Harris out of the race. And you shouldn’t. Her campaign is dead, but the machine is still going strong with a billion dollars to spend. 

The Democrats are cornered rats, and cornered rats are unpredictable and dangerous, and these rats have rabies. 

But it’s clear that the CAMPAIGN is over. Now it is nothing but Bruce Springsteen concerts, a big speech attacking Donald Trump on the National Mall, and carpet bombing Donald Trump. 

Harris’ campaign imploded. The Democrats are panicked. So stay frosty.
