Common Defense, a left-leaning non-governmental organization, is preparing a coalition of “Quick Reaction Forces” in order to respond to potential escalation at polling locations, according to NPR.
Ahead of the election, Common Defense, which is made up of 40,000 veterans, is mobilizing its network to help “monitor extremist activity in swing states around the election,” according to NPR. After instructing members in “open source intelligence” to help predict unrest around polling locations, individuals are instructed by the organization to respond to escalation by filming video in an attempt to produce “accountability,” the outlet reported. “We’re training a lot of folks in de-escalation,” Perry O’Brien, co-founder of Common Defense, told NPR. “We’re training folks in monitoring and capturing video for accountability.”
When a “crisis” unfolds, the “Quick Reaction Forces” will show up to polling locations “unarmed and in plainclothes,” the outlet reported.
Common Defense has been teaching members to review publicly accessible information — frequently found on social media — in a search for potential threats in swing states, O’Brien told NPR.
“That’s obviously the area that we’re anticipating a lot of these threats are going to come from,” he added.

“In 2016, I just don’t think that the population was prepared for it, and that’s why we didn’t see wider-spread unrest, because nobody expected it to happen,” Richie McGinniss, a longtime video journalist who has covered social unrest for years, told the Caller. McGinnis was previously the video director for the Daily Caller.
“I hate to say it, but it’s going to be a lot worse [in 2024] than it was in 2016 if Trump wins,” he added, citing the past several years of “anti-Trumpism” that the nation has been steeped in.
