Florida Attorney General Ashley Moody has filed a federal lawsuit against FEMA Director Deanne Criswell and FEMA reservist Marn’i Washington, accusing them of conspiring to violate the civil rights of conservative Floridians during hurricane recovery efforts.

As reported by Red State, the lawsuit claims that FEMA officials discriminated against residents displaying Trump campaign signs or banners by withholding federal aid.

“While the facts will continue to emerge, it is already clear that Defendant Washington conspired with senior FEMA officials, as well as those carrying out her orders, to violate the civil rights of Florida citizens,” states the complaint, filed in federal court in Fort Pierce, Florida.

The suit seeks unspecified damages and a declaration that the officials’ actions were unlawful. Governor Ron DeSantis weighed in, calling the allegations “unacceptable” and pledging full state support for the investigation.

“It’s unacceptable for the federal government to discriminate against Floridians who voted for Trump, and especially egregious in the aftermath of a hurricane,” DeSantis said in a statement.

“I’m supportive of this legal action by the Attorney General’s Office, and I have instructed state agencies to likewise take any action necessary to investigate and ensure those who engaged in this behavior are held accountable.”

The controversy began when a whistleblower leaked internal FEMA communications to The Daily Wire. The documents revealed directives to avoid providing assistance to homes displaying support for President-elect Donald Trump.

The whistleblower, reportedly a FEMA supervisor, alleged that employees were instructed to treat Trump supporters’ homes as though there were vicious dogs on those properties.

This explosive claim has been corroborated in television interviews, where the whistleblower openly described her actions as following agency policy.

The lawsuit arrives as RFK Jr. prepares to join a new administration, amplifying the push for accountability. With Florida’s legal action and heightened scrutiny under the incoming administration, FEMA’s handling of disaster recovery is poised for a thorough examination.
