FACT CHECK: Did Robert F. Kennedy Jr. Claim He Will Ban Diet Coke?

A post shared on social media purports Robert F. Kennedy Jr. announced he will ban Coca-Cola once President-elect Donald Trump is in office.

BREAKING:

Effective January 20th will be BANNING all consumption of Diet Coke in the United States.

Verdict: False

There is no evidence of Kennedy making this announcement.

Fact Check:

Kennedy has reportedly pushed for his daughter-in-law to be appointed to the position of deputy director of the CIA, which wouldn’t need the Senate’s approval, The Independent. Amaryllis Fox Kennedy was a CIA agent for nearly a decade after being recruited in her 20s, according to the outlet.

A post shared on X, formerly known as Twitter, purports Kennedy said he will ban the soda in Jan. The post shows an image of Coca-Cola Zero Sugar and Diet Coke.

“BREAKING: Effective January 20th will be BANNING all consumption of Diet Coke in the United States. It’s time to Make America Healthy Again! What’s your reaction?” the alleged caption reads.

The claim is inaccurate. The post appears to have originated from a parody account. The account features a disclaimer in the bio. “Official Robert F. Kennedy Jr Health Secretary Parody Account. The account shows posts of several different food products that Kennedy is purportedly banning,” the bio reads.

There is no such post from Kennedy’s authentic account. Kennedy was announced as Trump’s pick for  Secretary of Health and Human Services, but still needs confirmation from the Senate, according to Politico.  (RELATED: Has McDonald’s Offered RFK Jr. $850 Million In ‘Hush Money’?)

This is not the first time misinformation involving one of Trump’s picks has circulated online. Check Your Fact recently debunked a claim Elon Musk defended CEOs after Brian Thompson’s murder.
