Lindy Li, a prominent fundraiser and strategist for the Democratic National Committee (DNC), has announced her departure from the Democratic Party, citing internal attacks and toxic behavior after she criticized Kamala Harris.

Li, who referred to the party as a “cult,” made the announcement during an appearance on Piers Morgan Uncensored on Wednesday.

Li has been a high-profile figure within the DNC, serving as a surrogate for Harris and a member of the national fundraising committee.

She claims to have raised “tens of millions of dollars” for Democratic candidates and frequently appeared in media to advocate for Harris’s 2024 presidential campaign.

However, her criticism of the party and its leadership led to a backlash that she described as relentless and personal.

Li first faced attacks earlier this month after expressing support for President-elect Donald Trump’s defense secretary nominee, Pete Hegseth.

The situation escalated following her appearance on Fox & Friends, where she said, “Democrats have a stench of loser hanging over them.”

She also criticized Harris, accusing her of “indulging in delusions” of a political comeback, referencing speculation about Harris running for governor in 2026 or president in 2028.

The fallout from her remarks was swift.

Li revealed that she lost 40,000 followers in just four days and became the target of online campaigns encouraging people to unfollow and boycott her.

Speaking to Piers Morgan, she detailed the harassment she faced, which included being called derogatory names, accused of being a “communist spy,” and even being told she should be deported.

“They’re calling me a spy for the regime that killed my great-grandfather,” she said.

“These are the people who call themselves social justice warriors, but they go headfirst into racism anytime someone dares to disagree with them.”

Li described the reaction as eye-opening, saying it revealed the hypocrisy of a party that claims to champion inclusion and diversity. “All these so-called Democrats, the party of inclusion, the party of diversity—masks off,” she told Morgan.

“When I dare to utter any criticisms of the goddess Kamala Harris, I get ostracized. Me, after having raised tens of millions of dollars for the party.”

Li also questioned the party’s financial accountability. “My donors are pissed… It’s my responsibility to ask what the hell happened with their money. But no, in the cult, you can’t ask questions,” she said. “Leaving the Democratic Party or even questioning the Democratic Party is like leaving a cult.”

Li revealed that the backlash has accelerated her “rightward shift” and noted that members of Trump’s team had reached out to her to explore the possibility of switching sides.

“People on Trump’s team have already reached out to me to see if I’d be willing to switch,” she said. “So, I’m not an orphan, you know? And I know people are actively trying to recruit me.”

While Li has not yet announced her next steps, she acknowledged the significant impact her departure could have, given her role in raising substantial funds for the Democratic Party. “They’re shrinking their tent. They’re basically pushing me to bring my tens of millions of dollars that I’ve raised and can continue to raise to a different team that treats me better, that treats me with common decency,” she said.

Li is not the first prominent fundraiser to part ways with the Democratic Party.

In June, a former Obama fundraiser who raised millions for his campaign announced she was “divorcing” the party and planned to support Trump in the upcoming election.

As Li navigates her political future, her departure underscores growing discontent among high-profile Democrats and fundraisers, adding to a series of defections that may shape the party’s trajectory heading into 2024.
