As 2024 draws to a close, Joe Biden’s time in public office is winding down, with his presidency set to conclude on January 20, 2025.
On that day, Donald Trump will be sworn in as the 47th President of the United States.
Discussions about Biden’s political legacy are intensifying, with partisan divides shaping how his decades in public service are remembered.

While Democrats are attempting to frame Biden’s career as “distinguished,” Republicans have been quick to highlight controversies from his tenure in the Senate and his time in the White House.
Among the GOP’s critiques are Biden’s controversial handling of Supreme Court confirmation hearings for Judges Robert Bork and Clarence Thomas in the late 1980s and early 1990s, his oversight of the chaotic Afghanistan withdrawal in 2021, and the recent pardon of his son, Hunter Biden.
One of Biden’s sharpest critics has been GOP strategist and CNN commentator Scott Jennings.
Speaking on NewsNight last Thursday, Jennings pointed out Biden’s admitted regrets, which notably did not include the botched Afghanistan withdrawal that resulted in the deaths of 13 U.S. service members. Jennings expanded his critique on Sunday, pointing to multiple areas where he believes Biden’s legacy will be tarnished.
“I think he’s going to leave office in disgrace,” Jennings said. “The Hunter Biden pardon was disgraceful. He’s going to be remembered largely for inflation and for the disastrous Afghanistan pullout. And I think we’re just getting the first draft of this now.”
Jennings further alleged a significant cover-up regarding Biden’s mental fitness.
“But as we continue to learn about the massive cover-up that went on, not about his health, but about his mental acuity… the efforts that were undertaken by the White House staff, by his family, not in the last couple of months, but for all four years. I think it’s going to be a really ugly chapter,” Jennings added.
While Jennings painted a grim picture of Biden’s legacy, former Democratic congressman and Kamala Harris ally Bakari Sellers attempted to shift the focus to Donald Trump.
Sellers accused Trump of leaving office “in disgrace” due to the events of January 6, 2021, and the two impeachments he faced.
Sellers omitted details such as Trump’s calls for protesters to demonstrate “peacefully and patriotically” and the politically charged nature of the impeachments brought by House Democrats.

In a related development, reports have surfaced about concerns over Biden’s mental fitness dating back to 2022.
NBC journalist Chuck Todd recently revealed that a senior cabinet secretary approached him privately that year to express doubts about Biden’s ability to run for re-election.
“I’m not gonna out the cabinet secretary. But I had a cabinet secretary two years ago, okay—two years ago, out of the blue ask me, ‘You really think he’s gonna—he can’t run again like this?’ And I said, ‘Well, you have more interaction with him than I do,’ and they said, ‘I don’t have a lot of interaction with him.’ This is a pretty senior cabinet secretary. So, and this was two years ago. This is one of those, you know, it’s the classic open secret, nonversation, right? It’s the story everybody knows and everybody was afraid to talk about,” Todd said.

As Biden prepares to leave office, questions about his mental acuity and the extent of any cover-up efforts remain unresolved.
Critics, including Jennings, argue that those who knew about Biden’s struggles and ignored them—whether in his administration or political allies like Kamala Harris—should face accountability for their roles in what he described as a scandal of epic proportions.
