Calling Pete Hegseth…

The U.S. Navy is in crisis. 

Our shipbuilding infrastructure has been in decline for decades, our capabilities don’t match the demands, and procurement has been a disaster. As Chinese capabilities and the threat they pose rise by the year, the Navy is in desperate need of reform. 

Which is why I am so glad to see that the Naval War College is taking on the task of improving our Naval warfighting capabilities. 

How much more convincing do we need to demonstrate that our military is not a trained and ready force for WAR?

At the War College’s 11th Annual Women, Peace, and Security Symposium, a presenter got to the heart of the matter: in order to succeed, the Navy needs to recruit more gender experts. 

If you think about it, this makes perfect sense. I doubt that the sailors who accidentally shot down an F-18 the other day had sufficient training in walking on eggshells around potentially gender-confused individuals or were encouraged to find their true selves by trying on furry costumes or filming pornography near a nuclear reactor. 

Chances are good that they can’t rattle off the 87 genders or however many there are. Who knows how much more efficient our warfighting capabilities might be if our commanders spent more time exploring the gender identities of Chinese sailors?

The Gerald R. Ford class of carriers has had a famously tough run of things getting designed and built, and you might be forgiven for worrying that it will perform as required if called upon to fight a near-peer adversary. 

You would be right to do so. When it was conceived and designed, gender identity was barely a thing, and for most of the years during which it was built and tested, not a single progressive pride flag was flown at naval bases. Who knows how much damage was done? 

No doubt the Navy has yet to fully implement the Biden-era policies of embracing gender fluidity, and it is exciting to see that even after the election of Donald Trump, the Naval War College is moving full speed ahead, improving its ability to bring the fight to the enemy.  

Not to mention, we need our sailors to look fabulous while doing so. 

This symposium presentation wasn’t a one-off. The wokification of the military has been going on for years. You may recall the training video the Navy put out regarding the importance of using the proper pronouns.

Now I readily admit that I am not the right guy to determine the optimal method for training our soldiers, sailors, or Marines–that would be Beege, who reportedly kicked butt as a Marine–but even I know that the sure-fire way to ensure that America can intimidate the Chinese Navy is to learn proper pronoun practice. 

That’s why I worry that Pete Hegseth might derail the modernization of our fighting forces and return to the old practice of focusing on lethality and discipline. No more gender studies, critical race theory, worries about white male toxicity, or any of the truly important problems that our military faces. 

All warfighting, all the time is so 20th century.
