This video is miscaptioned and originates from 2019.

Fact Check: 

A new Suez Canal channel has been tested with two ships reportedly able to pass through, Reuters reported. The Ever Given blocking the waterway accelerated plans to widen the channel, but Egypt has lost billions in revenue due to the conflict in Gaza, according to the outlet.

An X post purports to show recent video of a large protest. The video appears to show a large crowd waving a banner and yelling as it falls.

“Anti government protests erupt in Cairo, Egypt,” the caption reads.

This video is not recent, however. An article from the Human Rights Watch published in September 2019 shows a still photo from the same video. Its caption reads, “A still photo of a video circulated on social media on September 20 showing masses of anti-government protesters in the city of Damietta, North of Cairo, tearing down a big Sisi banner.” The article states that the banner shows Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi, who was called to step down at the time by Mohamed Ali, a former army contractor.

It can also be seen in an article from Al Jazeera from September 2019.
