A Texas police officer suffered a serious head injury early Friday while attempting to make an arrest in Beaumont.

Disturbing footage shows bystanders laughing and mocking the officer as he lay unconscious on the ground following a violent incident involving a fleeing suspect.

The incident began in a parking lot where a woman, later identified as 28-year-old Jamaysha Butler, fled on foot before jumping into an open convertible.

A pursuing officer tried to stop her by leaping into the car’s back seat, but Butler accelerated, causing the officer to be thrown headfirst onto the pavement.

The officer was left unconscious with a serious head injury, including a brain bleed, according to the Beaumont Police Department.

He was rushed to a nearby hospital, where he remains in stable condition.

As the injured officer lay motionless, a crowd of onlookers reacted with laughter and jeers.

Video of the incident captured individuals mocking the officer, with one person yelling, “Yo, yo! Police! Step on my man!” while the convertible sped away.

The footage circulated widely on social media, where some commenters joined in ridiculing the officer.

An Instagram account, @dallasglobaltv, captioned the video, “Beaumont police plays dead after woman smoothly escapes.”

Others made derogatory comparisons, including a reference to the comedy film Paul Blart: Mall Cop.

Beaumont police later apprehended Butler, charging her with Intoxication Assault and Evading Detention, both resulting in serious bodily injury to a peace officer.

A second suspect, 22-year-old Melissa Bell, was also arrested.

Police allege Bell kicked and kneed the officer while he was attempting to detain her earlier in the incident.

Bell faces multiple charges, including public intoxication, resisting arrest, interference with public duties, assault on a peace officer, and outstanding warrants.

Both Butler and Bell have prior arrest records, according to authorities.

The video sparked widespread outrage, with many condemning the behavior of both the suspects and the bystanders.

Police confirmed the injured officer is recovering but emphasized the gravity of the situation.

The Beaumont Police Department addressed the incident in a Facebook post, detailing the charges against Butler and Bell and thanking the community for their support.

The officer’s name has not been released, but the department noted his dedication to duty and assured the public that justice would be pursued.

This incident marks another example of the dangers faced by law enforcement and the challenges of maintaining public order in the face of rising hostility and disrespect for officers.

Authorities have called for accountability and respect for those who risk their lives to protect and serve their communities.
