Alan Dershowitz, a seasoned attorney known for his unfiltered takes, didn’t hold back during a heated exchange on Newsmax’s American Agenda.

As The Independent Journal Review reported, on Monday, Dershowitz challenged Luke Bronin, a former Democratic mayor of Hartford, Connecticut, to name the specific crime Donald Trump was convicted of. Unsurprisingly, Bronin couldn’t provide an answer, opting instead to deflect.

The back-and-forth comes after a Manhattan jury in May convicted Trump on 34 counts of falsifying business records linked to a nondisclosure agreement with Stormy Daniels.

However, Dershowitz made it clear he views the case as a politically motivated sham. “Alvin Bragg searched the law books to try to find a crime against Donald Trump. He couldn’t. And so he made one up and prosecuted him for the weakest case I’ve seen in 62 years of practice,” Dershowitz stated emphatically.

He continued, pressing Bronin to condemn what he called a “non-crime” prosecution. “Just remember: 32 times zero equals zero. Will you condemn that prosecution?” Dershowitz asked, cutting straight to the heart of the matter.

Bronin, however, evaded the question, instead parroting the leftist talking point that the jury’s guilty verdict was somehow proof enough. “Alan, you’re talking about a trial where Donald Trump was found guilty by a jury of his peers,” Bronin replied, ignoring the substance of Dershowitz’s critique.

The Manhattan jury, guided by Judge Juan Merchan’s instructions, wasn’t even required to agree on the alleged underlying crime Trump supposedly covered up. Dershowitz didn’t let that slide. “Tell me what the crime was he was convicted of. I challenge you to describe the crime,” he shot back. “You can’t do it. There is no crime.”

As Bronin floundered, attempting to suggest that the jury’s decision lent legitimacy to the case, Dershowitz interrupted, slamming the prosecution as “utterly illegitimate.” The conversation reached a boiling point before Newsmax host Bob Brooks stepped in to end the segment.

Adding to the controversy, Judge Merchan has ordered Trump to appear for sentencing on January 10, just ten days before his inauguration.

Despite the conviction, CNN legal analyst Elie Honig predicted Trump will face no consequences, saying he’s likely to receive “an unconditional discharge, meaning no prison time, no probation, no fine, no community service, no nothing.”

The segment underscores growing frustrations among conservatives who see Trump’s legal woes as part of a larger campaign to weaponize the justice system against political opponents. Dershowitz, a lifelong defender of civil liberties, summed up the sentiment well: “This was utterly illegitimate.”
