The California wildfires have prompted criticism from celebrities, including Khloé Kardashian, who voiced her frustration with Los Angeles officials over the handling of the crisis.
The fires, which began Tuesday, have displaced thousands, destroyed homes, and left many questioning the preparedness and response from city and state leaders.
On Friday, Kardashian evacuated her Hidden Hills home and took to social media to express her support for Los Angeles Fire Department (LAFD) Chief Kristin Crowley, while criticizing Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass. Sharing a clip of Crowley’s Fox 11 interview, Kardashian wrote on her Instagram story, “I stand by YOU Chief Crowley!!!! You spoke the truth and you had tears in your eyes because I can tell you didn’t even want to say that but it was THE TRUTH!!!!” She added, “Mayor Bass, you are a joke!!!!”

The interview in question featured Crowley addressing budget cuts approved by Mayor Bass earlier this year.
When asked if the mayor had failed the city, Crowley replied, “Yes.” She elaborated, saying, “Any budget cut is going to impact our ability to provide service. That is a ground truth in regard to our ability. If there’s a budget cut, we had to pull from somewhere else. What does that mean? That doesn’t get done or that there are delays.”

A source told Fox 11 that Crowley was later summoned to a meeting with Bass to discuss her remarks, with the mayor reportedly displeased.
Kardashian is not alone in her criticism.
Actress Patricia Heaton voiced her frustration during an appearance on Fox & Friends, stating, “The whole city has been decimated, and it hasn’t stopped yet. There’s a lot that could’ve been done for the last 40 years to make sure that the fires don’t do this to our friends in Los Angeles. The ball was dropped over and over again.”
Similarly, Sarah Michelle Gellar called out city officials as the Palisades Fire continued to burn.
On Tuesday, she posted to Instagram, writing, “City of LA you want everyone to evacuate yet you have complete gridlock and not one traffic cop on the roads helping,” tagging the City of Los Angeles and Mayor Bass.
Real estate mogul Mauricio Umansky, founder and CEO of The Agency, also criticized California’s government during an interview with Fox News Digital.
He highlighted the state’s lack of preparation and questioned how taxpayer dollars were being allocated.
“We are one of the largest economies in the world, California on its own,” Umansky said.
“Los Angeles, you know, being the second-largest city in the country, our taxes are the highest-paying taxes in the country. And the fact that we were unprepared … We didn’t do the brush clearance. We didn’t have the water in the fire hydrants. We were unprepared, and we did not spend the money where we needed to spend the money.”
Actress Justine Bateman echoed these sentiments during an appearance on Jesse Watters Primetime.
She criticized Los Angeles officials, saying they had failed residents and should step down.
“If you are going to run a city or a state, you have to take care of the basics,” Bateman said. “That’s to make sure that your fire and police departments are well-funded. … If you’re not doing everything you can to take care of those problems if they arrive, then get out. You are useless to us. … You have destroyed people’s lives.”

The fires have also reignited debates over how resources are managed.
Concerns have been raised about water shortages in fire hydrants, gridlocked evacuation routes, and insufficient brush clearance—issues many argue could have been mitigated with better planning.
As the crisis continues, officials face mounting scrutiny from both residents and public figures demanding accountability and effective action.
