President-elect Donald Trump and his team are counting down until inauguration day with a series of videos with Tuesday’s, obtained first by the Daily Caller, promising to “make America secure again” under Trump’s second administration.
“My first day back in the White House I will terminate every open border policy of the Biden administration, stop the invasion on our southern border and begin the largest domestic deportation operation in American history,” the president-elect says in the video while photos of him visiting the southern border flash. “We will launch a federal task force to dismantle the gangs, the street crews and the criminal networks that are ravaging our towns. We will stop the invasion, end migrant crime, support our police, strengthen our military, build a missile defense shield all around our country,” Trump’s voiceover in the video titled “Make America Secure Again” concludes.
Fixing the border crisis was a main pillar of Trump’s 2024 campaign message. Under the Biden administration, about 8.5 million encounters occurred along the U.S.-Mexico border. Illegal border crossings fell to their lowest levels by September, but the low numbers only came after fiscal years 2023 and 2024 became the worst and second worst years for inadmissible alien encounters in U.S. history.
While on the campaign trail, Trump promised to complete the U.S.-Mexico border wall, revive the Remain in Mexico program, hire more Border Patrol agents and reinstate the travel ban.
The president-elect also promised to conduct the “largest deportation program in American history” as well as introduce a plan that would end birthright citizenship for those born on American soil by illegal migrant parents.
After the 2024 election, Trump appointed former acting U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) director Tom Homan to serve in the White House as his “border czar.” In a Truth Social post appointing Homan, Trump said his new border czar would be in charge of “all Deportation of Illegal Aliens back to their Country of Origin,” addressing issues at the northern and southern border as well as overseeing “maritime and aviation security.”
In addition to Homan, Trump has also tapped Republican South Dakota Gov. Kristi Noem to lead the Department of Homeland Security, Caleb Vitello to lead ICE and Rodney Scott to lead U.S. Customs and Border Protection. They are expected to oversee his administration’s efforts to address the southern border crisis.
“We’re going to take the handcuffs off ICE and let them do what they do best,” Homan previously told the Daily Caller News Foundation of Trump’s second administration.
