Hunter Biden, the president’s scandal-plagued son, found himself once again in the spotlight—this time seated in the Oval Office as his father, President Joe Biden, delivered a farewell address to the nation, as reported by The New York Post.
The elder Biden, in his closing remarks as commander-in-chief, implored Americans to “respect the courts” and “pay their fair share of taxes.” Quite the message, considering the family drama playing out behind the scenes.
At 82 years old, Biden reflected on his decades in public office, stating that “believing the idea of America means respecting institutions that govern a free society.”

His remarks on respecting the courts seemed almost ironic, as Hunter Biden, now 54, was sitting mere feet away. This is the same Hunter Biden who dodged $1.4 million in taxes while blowing cash on what court documents described as a mix of drugs, luxury items, and lavish indulgences.

The president’s address also targeted wealthy Americans, urging them to “play by the same rules” and contribute their fair share in taxes. However, the elephant in the room couldn’t have been more obvious.
Last September, Hunter pleaded guilty to nine tax charges, three of which were felonies. These charges stemmed from his extravagant spending habits and blatant disregard for IRS obligations.
Adding fuel to the fire, Hunter’s legal woes didn’t stop at tax evasion. Earlier last year, he was convicted on three felony charges tied to a 2018 firearm purchase made while he was admittedly addicted to crack cocaine.
Despite his mounting scandals, the president intervened in December, issuing a sweeping pardon that wiped clean Hunter’s record for any crimes committed—or potentially committed—between January 2014 and December 2024.
This pardon came as a shock to many, particularly after repeated assurances from the White House that such an action would not take place. Yet, during his farewell speech, the president justified his decision with the claim that “family is everything.”

Critics have long argued that the Biden family, allegedly enriched by an international influence-peddling scheme, has often operated under its own set of rules.
The first lady, Jill Biden, Vice President Kamala Harris, and second gentleman Doug Emhoff were also present during the Oval Office address, but it was Hunter’s presence that captured attention.
With the president’s last day in office looming on Monday, Americans are left to ponder the stark contrast between the rhetoric of “paying your fair share” and the reality playing out in the Biden family saga.
