As President Joe Biden prepares to leave the Oval Office, his final remarks have raised eyebrows.

Speaking at the Royal Missionary Baptist Church in Charleston, South Carolina, ahead of Martin Luther King Jr. Day, Biden delivered a mix of self-praise and lofty promises, capped off with a declaration that he’s “not going anywhere,” as reported by The Daily Mail.

The 82-year-old president, who faced mounting pressure from within his own party to step aside due to concerns about his cognitive health, touted his record-breaking number of commutations and pardons.

Biden boasted how he granted more commutations and individual pardons than any other president in American history, claiming his efforts to reduce harsh sentences for non-violent drug offenders showcased his commitment to justice and mercy.

Biden also highlighted his attempt to “end the federal death penalty,” framing his decision to commute Death Row sentences to life without parole as an act of moral courage.

“These decisions are difficult, but justice and mercy require us to bear witness, to see people’s pain, not to look away,” he told the congregation.

In a winding speech punctuated with religious rhetoric, Biden urged Americans to cling to hope. “Faith teaches us the America of our dreams is always closer than we think,” he said.

“We must hold on to hope. We must stay engaged. We must always keep the faith in a better day to come.”

But Biden’s insistence that he’s “not going anywhere” rings hollow in light of his abrupt exit from the 2024 presidential race.

Over the summer, his debate performance against President-elect Donald Trump was widely criticized, leaving many Democrats doubting his ability to secure another term.

Former Speaker Nancy Pelosi reportedly confronted Biden after the debate, warning him that his continued presence in the race could damage Democratic campaigns.

Admitting Pelosi’s concerns were valid, Biden told CBS’s Sunday Morning that he stepped aside to avoid becoming a distraction.

“I was concerned if I stayed in the race, that would be the topic — you’d be interviewing me about why Nancy Pelosi said [something] … and I thought it’d be a real distraction,” Biden said.

As Trump prepares to take the oath of office, Biden’s final address reflects a leader clinging to his own narrative of success, even as his party pushes him toward the door.

His closing words to the South Carolina audience seemed to capture his defiance: “It’s been the honor of my life to serve as your president. I’m in no ways tired.”
