The 2025 Grammy Awards delivered its fair share of shocking moments, but few rivaled the reaction to Beyoncé taking home Best Country Album.

While some cheered, others weren’t quite as enthusiastic—including country star Kacey Musgraves, whose reaction quickly became the talk of social media.

Beyoncé, at 43, made history once again with her album Cowboy Carter, stunning the crowd when Taylor Swift announced her as the category’s winner.

Even Beyoncé herself seemed unprepared, with her 13-year-old daughter, Blue Ivy, nudging her to go accept the award.

As the camera panned through the audience, many viewers locked in on Musgraves, who clapped but didn’t exactly radiate joy.

The singer-songwriter had been a strong contender with Deeper Well, alongside Post Malone’s F-1 Trillion, Chris Stapleton’s Higher, and Lainey Wilson’s Whirlwind.

Her less-than-thrilled expression didn’t go unnoticed. Social media exploded with reactions, with many accusing Musgraves of being visibly upset.

“Is Kacey Musgraves mad that Beyoncé won? She sure looks it,” one user posted on X.

Another quipped, “Kacey Musgraves is looking pissed after losing to Beyoncé, not gonna lie, that tickled me.”

Others defended Musgraves and fellow nominee Lainey Wilson, pointing out how difficult it is for women to break through in country music, only to be outpaced by a mainstream pop icon.

“Kacey Musgraves and Lainey Wilson worked their ass off to make it big in the country industry—a nearly impossible feat for women. And it all gets snubbed by Beyoncé, who only won because of pop listeners,” one person vented.

Despite the uproar, Musgraves still had reason to celebrate, taking home Best Country Song for The Architect, marking her eighth career Grammy win. In her acceptance speech, she reflected on the power of music in troubled times.

“There’s so much darkness in this world right now, and it just feels so good to be able to fight some of that darkness through song,” she said, thanking her team and fans for their support.

Beyoncé, meanwhile, wasn’t done making history. She finally secured her first-ever Album of the Year Grammy, an award that had long eluded her despite being the most-awarded artist in the Recording Academy’s history with 35 wins.

“It’s been many, many years,” Beyoncé remarked during her speech, with Blue Ivy standing proudly beside her. “I just feel very full and very honored.”

While the dust settles from this latest Grammys controversy, one thing is certain: country music fans aren’t about to let this moment slide.
