Florida Governor Ron DeSantis announced a new agreement with Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) on Friday, strengthening the state’s role in enforcing federal immigration laws.

The move aligns with President Donald Trump’s commitment to a large-scale deportation effort, as DeSantis reaffirmed Florida’s role in supporting the administration’s immigration enforcement agenda.

During a press conference, DeSantis outlined the details of the agreement, which authorizes state and local law enforcement officers to work directly with ICE under the agency’s 287(g) program.

This federal initiative allows ICE to delegate immigration enforcement duties to designated state and local officers, enabling them to perform specific functions under ICE supervision.

“This program allows ICE enforcement and removal operations to partner with state and local enforcement agencies to identify and remove already incarcerated criminal aliens who are eligible for removal before they are released into our community,” DeSantis stated.

The agreement also allows ICE to more efficiently identify and deport criminal illegal aliens who are already serving time in Florida’s correctional facilities.

This measure is intended to prevent released individuals from remaining in local communities after serving their sentences.

As part of the plan, the Florida Highway Patrol will receive training from ICE and be authorized to carry out immigration enforcement actions throughout the state.

DeSantis emphasized that this effort is in direct support of President Trump’s immigration agenda.

“President Trump is committed to effectuating the largest deportation effort in U.S. history,” DeSantis said.

“To help fulfill this mission, the U.S. Department of Homeland Security has offered an agreement with the Florida Highway Patrol to be trained & authorized by ICE to carry out immigration enforcement actions here in our state.”

The governor praised the Trump administration for its decisive leadership on immigration policy, highlighting that state law enforcement now has the authority to act without unnecessary bureaucratic delays.

“Thanks to strong leadership from the Trump Administration, state law enforcement will now be able to execute ICE’s 287(g) program to deport illegal aliens without unnecessary delays,” DeSantis said.

The agreement expands Florida’s ability to respond to illegal immigration challenges, particularly addressing concerns about individuals who entered the country under the Biden-Harris administration’s policies.

“Florida law enforcement officers are already doing great work, and we look forward to unleashing even more resources to capture and deport the illegal aliens who were invited into our country by the Biden Administration,” DeSantis added.

The governor concluded by emphasizing that this effort marks a critical step in securing the nation’s borders and addressing illegal immigration at the state level.

“These next four years must be when we end the illegal immigration crisis once and for all,” he stated.

The announcement reinforces Florida’s role as a key state in implementing Trump’s immigration policies and highlights DeSantis’ continued focus on state-level enforcement initiatives.

The partnership between ICE and Florida’s law enforcement agencies is expected to accelerate the removal of criminal illegal aliens and further strengthen the state’s immigration enforcement capabilities.
