IRS Gets Taste Of Its Own Medicine – Rep. Donalds [WATCH]

The Internal Revenue Service (IRS) is facing increased scrutiny as the Trump administration launches a comprehensive audit of the agency’s operations.

Florida Republican Rep. Byron Donalds addressed the development on Newsmax Friday, saying the IRS is now experiencing the same level of scrutiny it has imposed on American taxpayers for years.

Elon Musk’s Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) has taken the lead in assessing the IRS, with DOGE aide Gavin Kliger visiting IRS headquarters Thursday.

BREAKING: The IRS is gearing up to fire thousands of federal workers as soon as next week, according to the New York Times.

The revelation comes one day after DOGE workers were reportedly unleashed on the Internal Revenue Service.

Dennis Quaid’s #1 Warning for Americans

The purpose of the visit was to review agency operations, evaluate potential risks, and determine areas where spending could be reduced.

Speaking on Rob Schmitt Tonight, Donalds voiced support for the audit, calling it long overdue.

“If this is the only thing that gets accomplished, it’ll be mission accomplished for Donald Trump and for his team because for far too long the IRS has had no problem peering into the books of every American, rich or poor, middle-income America,” Donalds said.

“They love doing this stuff. But it’s time for them to be held accountable to make sure that everything that they’re paying for is fully accounted for.”

Donalds also took aim at the Democratic Party, suggesting that concerns about government overreach seem selective.

“Let’s be very clear to the Democrats who are all concerned about the bureaucratic state. Elon Musk is going over to the Department of Defense as well,” Donalds said.

“President Trump has a mission, and that is to make sure that our government is efficient and that it gets out of the way of the American people so that our country can be great again, and so we’re going to examine everything.”

The audit is not only aimed at ensuring fiscal accountability but also at cutting down unnecessary government spending. Donalds emphasized that all aspects of federal operations would be examined, not just select areas.

“Unlike the Democrats, we’re not going to pick and choose what gets the spotlight. Everything’s going to be examined. Everything’s going to be addressed,” Donalds added.

“And it’s to the betterment of the American people because if we have an efficient government that spends less money, then that helps every American when it comes to price stability and being able to borrow money.”

Senior IRS officials have reportedly received internal directives to identify and eliminate all contracts deemed “non-essential.”

The General Services Administration (GSA) defines these contracts as those related to producing reports, research, coaching, or similar expenditures.

“Consistent with the goals and directives of the Trump administration to eliminate waste, reduce spending, and increase efficiency, GSA has taken the first steps in a government-wide initiative to eliminate non-essential consulting contracts,” an internal email read, according to Reuters.

The IRS has long been a target of criticism, particularly among conservatives. A July Pew Research poll found that the IRS had the lowest favorability rating among all federal agencies, with 50% of Americans holding a negative view of the agency.

Republican distrust of the IRS has been fueled by accusations that the agency has unfairly targeted conservative organizations applying for tax-exempt status.

Despite the growing scrutiny, the IRS under the Biden-Harris administration recently approved $2.4 billion in automatic stimulus payments for distribution by late January.

According to a December 20 press release, the payments are intended for Americans who failed to claim the Recovery Rebate Credit on their 2021 tax returns and did not receive previous stimulus payments issued during the COVID-19 pandemic.

With Trump’s team tightening its oversight of federal agencies, the IRS is now under a microscope, and further action from DOGE could follow as the administration pushes for greater accountability.
