Former Vice President Kamala Harris faced renewed criticism over the weekend after delivering a meandering speech to the cast of A Wonderful World: The Louis Armstrong Musical on Broadway.

Harris, known for her often disjointed public remarks, was widely mocked online, with some critics comparing her speech to that of a “drunk auntie.”

Harris and her husband, Doug Emhoff, attended two Broadway productions during their visit to New York City—A Wonderful World and Gypsy.

The former vice president received a warm reception from the audience, including cheers and a standing ovation.

However, her post-show remarks quickly drew attention for their convoluted phrasing.

Addressing the cast and crew of A Wonderful World, Harris attempted to deliver an inspirational message but ended up offering a stream of vague, disjointed statements.

“When we think about these moments where we see things that are being taken, but also let’s see it, you know, nature abhors a vacuum,” Harris said in a clip shared on X.

“Where there’s a vacancy, let’s fill it. Let us know that the reality is that the progress of our nation has been about the expansion of rights, not the restriction of rights,” she continued.

“We’re seeing a U-turn right now. For those rights to be maintained which means we have to be vigilant. It’s just the nature of it.”

She later added: “We have to be clear-eyed. And it doesn’t mean we don’t see the beauty in everything. These things all co-exist, but I believe we fight for something, not against something.”

The speech was quickly ridiculed online, with social media users pointing out its lack of coherence.

“Kamala Harris hit Broadway and, of course, served up her signature word salad. A friendly reminder of what we dodged in the White House,” one user wrote, sharing a clip of the speech.

Another commented: “Literally, the only thing worse than listening to this gobbledygook is the folks around her nodding and clapping, as if she made sense.”

“How are they not all rolling their eyes at her inane chatter?!” a third user questioned.

Some likened Harris’ speech to talking with an inebriated family member, with one post reading: “Drunk auntie and her entourage of people that get paid to go ‘Mmmm.’”

Others responded with gifs of salads being tossed, referencing her frequent use of confusing and overly wordy statements.

At 60, Harris has yet to announce her next move following her defeat to Donald Trump in the 2024 election.

She previously vowed she would not “go quietly into the night” after leaving office in January.

While her future political ambitions remain unclear, speculation has grown that she may consider a gubernatorial run in California once current Governor Gavin Newsom reaches his term limit.
