Elon Musk and White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt are pushing back against Democrat criticism of the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) by highlighting past statements from prominent Democrat leaders that echo the very same goals DOGE is pursuing.
For weeks, Democrats have protested DOGE’s efforts to streamline the federal government, with some even resorting to threats of violence.
Earlier this month, a comedian publicly called for the assassination of both Musk and President Donald Trump, who appointed Musk to lead the initiative.

Dennis Quaid’s #1 Warning for Americans
Leavitt and Musk responded by sharing video clips of Bill Clinton, Barack Obama, and Joe Biden calling for the same budget reform and spending cuts that DOGE is now implementing.
In footage amplified by Leavitt on Sunday, Obama and Biden can be seen making statements about eliminating government waste and ensuring taxpayer dollars are used responsibly—ideas that align directly with DOGE’s mission.
“We can’t sustain a system that bleeds billions of taxpayer dollars that have outlived their usefulness or exists solely for the power of politicians, lobbyists, or interest groups,” Obama said in one clip.
Biden, who was serving as vice president at the time, followed by stating: “Americans are entitled to accountability to make sure we’re using the dollars for what we said it was for.”
In another clip, Obama reiterated the need for “going through our federal budget…line-by-line, eliminating these programs we don’t need and ensuring that those we do need to operate in a sensible, cost-effective way.”
Additional footage showed Obama discussing eliminating unnecessary spending, while Biden talked about efforts to instill a culture of fiscal responsibility in government.
Leavitt, in a caption accompanying the video, mocked the Democrat outrage over DOGE’s cost-cutting initiatives, pointing out the clear contradiction between their past statements and their current resistance.
“To all of the Democrats who are planning to protest this week, here’s an explanation on DOGE, from your party’s own beloved leaders!” Leavitt wrote.

On Monday, Musk added to the response by sharing video footage of former President Bill Clinton and then-Vice President Al Gore not only advocating for a smaller government but taking direct action to cut its size.
Musk commented on the Democratic Party’s shift to the far left, writing: “What DOGE is doing is similar to Clinton/Gore Dem policies of the 1990s. The current Dem party has just gone so crazy far left that it isn’t recognizable anymore!”
The video compilations serve as a direct rebuttal to Democrat critics who claim DOGE’s budget-cutting measures are extreme or unprecedented.
The resurfaced footage shows that reducing government waste and streamlining bureaucracy were once core Democratic policies—until the party moved further left.

Despite the pushback from activists and political opponents, DOGE continues its mission to identify and eliminate waste, fraud, and abuse in federal agencies.
The initiative, a key part of Trump’s campaign promises, has gained support among conservatives who see it as a necessary step toward reducing government overreach.
With Democrats ramping up protests, Musk and Leavitt’s strategy of using Democrat leaders’ own words against them is gaining traction online, further exposing the party’s shift and apparent double standards when it comes to fiscal responsibility.
