Tesla CEO Elon Musk reflected on his shift from being admired by progressives to becoming one of their top targets after supporting President Donald Trump.
In a joint interview with Fox News’ Sean Hannity, Musk compared the left’s obsession with Trump to a condition that makes reasonable discussion impossible.
Musk, who was once widely embraced by progressives for his work in electric vehicles and space exploration, pointed out that his decision to support Trump changed how he was perceived.
Dennis Quaid’s #1 Warning for Americans
“There’s this whole sort of, you know … they call it like Trump Derangement Syndrome. You don’t realize how real this is until, like — it’s like you can’t reason with people,” Musk said.
He recalled an experience at a private birthday dinner in Los Angeles shortly before the 2024 presidential election, describing how a simple mention of Trump’s name changed the entire mood of the gathering.
“It was like they got shot with a dart in the jugular that contained, like, methamphetamine and rabies,” Musk joked.
Musk emphasized that rational discussions have become increasingly difficult with those who strongly oppose Trump.
“Like, guys? You can’t have, like, a normal conversation,” he said. “It’s like they become completely irrational.”

The billionaire’s remarks reflect his ongoing frustration with the way political discourse has devolved, particularly among those who refuse to engage with opposing viewpoints.
Once seen as an ally of the left due to his focus on green energy and technological innovation, Musk has since become a vocal critic of progressive policies.
His clashes with Democratic politicians, especially over issues such as free speech and government overreach, have further distanced him from his former supporters.
Musk has also been outspoken about censorship on social media, championing free speech since taking over X.
His advocacy for open dialogue has put him at odds with the left, which he claims has become intolerant of differing opinions.
With Musk now firmly backing Trump and his policies, his comments on Hannity reinforce his stance that extreme partisanship is making rational debate increasingly rare.
