Fetterman Hemorrhages Staff as He Keeps Breaking with the Democratic Party

Sen. John Fetterman, D-Pa., is making headlines again—this time for losing more top staffers as he continues to ruffle feathers within his own party.

As reported by Fox News, the Pennsylvania Democrat, who has recently sided with Republicans on key issues, is now dealing with another wave of resignations from his office.

According to sources, two senior aides—Deputy Chief of Staff and Legislative Director Tré Easton and Communications Director Charlie Hills—have both decided to jump ship.

Their departures, first reported by NBC News, add to a growing list of staffers who have walked away from Fetterman’s team in recent months.

Easton, in a statement, praised his time working for Fetterman, saying:

“Working for John afforded me the opportunity to build a diligent policy team from scratch. Together we created a legislative body of work that I think is a blueprint for how Democrats should be governing when they have power. I’ll forever be grateful.”

But gratitude aside, Easton and Hills are just the latest to leave an office that has seen more turnover than a bakery at sunrise.

Earlier this year, three members of Fetterman’s communications team—former Communications Director Joe Calvello, Deputy Communications Director Nicholas Gavio, and Digital Aide Emma Mustion—also packed up and left. All three quickly found new jobs with other Democrats or progressive organizations.

Then there was the curious case of Carrie Adams, Fetterman’s new communications chief, who mysteriously vanished from Capitol Hill after publicly disagreeing with her boss. Back in August 2024, she openly admitted to The Free Press that she opposed Fetterman’s pro-Israel stance.

“I don’t agree with him,” she bluntly told the publication.

After that, she was nowhere to be found. Reporters noticed her absence, and whispers spread about whether she was still employed by the senator. It wasn’t until a month later that it was confirmed—Adams had left, too.

While Fetterman still calls himself a Democrat, he has become a wild card, breaking with his party on major issues. His outspoken support for Israel has set him apart from many on the left, and he even entertained the idea of President Trump’s proposal to annex Gaza, telling Jewish Insider:

“It’s a provocative part of the conversation, but it’s part of the conversation, and that’s where we are.”

And it’s not just foreign policy where he’s bucked the Democratic line. On immigration, Fetterman stunned the left when he became the first Democrat to co-sponsor the Republican-backed Laken Riley Act.

The bill, named after a tragic victim of illegal immigrant crime, was dismissed by Democrats as too broad and “harsh”—but Fetterman stood firm.

“Laken Riley’s story is a tragic reminder of what’s at stake when our systems fail to protect people. No family should have to endure the pain of losing a loved one to preventable violence. Immigration is what makes our country great. I support giving authorities the tools to prevent tragedies like this one while we work on comprehensive solutions to our broken system.”

If that wasn’t enough to send shockwaves through his own party, Fetterman has also crossed party lines to back multiple Trump cabinet nominees—sometimes as the lone Democratic vote.

For a senator who once campaigned as a progressive firebrand, this rightward drift has many Democrats scratching their heads.

Whether he’s truly shifting ideologically or just enjoying the attention that comes with being a maverick, one thing is certain—Fetterman’s independent streak is costing him staff, and he doesn’t seem to care.
