The White House has confirmed that Amy Gleason has been appointed as the acting administrator of the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), the federal agency spearheading efforts to eliminate bureaucratic bloat and slash billions in government waste, as reported by Fox News.
While billionaire entrepreneur Elon Musk has been tapped to oversee the agency’s mission, Gleason will handle day-to-day operations as acting leader.
The revelation came after White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt was pressed on the matter by CBS News’ Nancy Cordes. During a briefing, Cordes referenced President Donald Trump’s executive order establishing DOGE and demanded to know who was officially leading the agency.

“So, the president tasked Elon Musk to oversee the DOGE effort,” Leavitt responded.
“There are career officials and political appointees helping run DOGE on a day-to-day basis. There are also individuals who have onboarded as political appointees at every agency across the board to work alongside President Trump’s Cabinet to find and identify waste, fraud, and abuse, and they are working on that effort every day.”
Not satisfied with the response, Cordes pressed further, asking outright, “So, is Elon Musk the administrator?” Instead of engaging, Leavitt opted to move on, calling on another reporter.

Shortly after the briefing, Fox News confirmed that Gleason, a lesser-known figure with a background in healthcare technology, had been designated as the acting administrator of DOGE.
While she doesn’t carry Musk’s name recognition, she does have experience navigating government systems.
Between 2018 and 2021, she worked for the United States Digital Service (now rebranded as the U.S. DOGE Service under Trump’s administration), where she played a role in the federal response to the coronavirus pandemic.

Gleason returned to the agency in January following Trump’s historic return to the White House.
Now, she steps into a key leadership role within DOGE, working alongside Musk and the administration’s broader efforts to root out inefficiency and hold Washington’s bloated bureaucracy accountable.
With Trump back in charge and Musk overseeing DOGE’s aggressive government overhaul, Washington insiders are left scrambling to adjust to the new reality—one where waste and inefficiency are no longer tolerated.
