SiriusXM host Megyn Kelly on Tuesday questioned whether MSNBC would take action against Rachel Maddow after the primetime host criticized the network’s recent programming cuts. Kelly remarked that Maddow had “rubbed [her bosses’] faces in shit” with her comments during her Monday night monologue.
On Sunday, MSNBC announced the cancellation of Joy Reid’s 7 p.m. show, opting instead for a rotation of anchors to fill the slot.
The decision was part of a broader shake-up at the network, which also included cutting shows hosted by Katie Phang and Jonathan Capehart.
Elon Musk Called This Financial News ‘Terrifying’
During her 9 p.m. broadcast Monday, Maddow expressed her disapproval, arguing that the cancellations disproportionately affected “non-white hosts in primetime.” She praised Reid and called MSNBC’s decision a “bad mistake.”
In response, Kelly played Maddow’s comments on her SiriusXM show and offered a sharp critique.
“She really is one of the most annoying people on television,” Kelly said. “She oozes sanctimony and self-righteousness. Here’s the real capper. She took her boss’s faces and rubbed them in shit last night.”
Kelly then addressed MSNBC executives directly, questioning why Maddow had not faced consequences for publicly challenging network leadership.

“Well, Rebecca and Mark, do you have any spines whatsoever? Are you actually going to let an employee, that’s what she is, Rachel Maddow, talk about you, your company, and your decision-making this way?” Kelly asked, referring to Maddow’s producer Rebecca Kutler and Mark Lazarus, who is expected to serve as CEO of SpinCo, the network’s soon-to-be restructured parent company.
Kelly continued, “Mr. Lazarus, do you have any testosterone? Do you have any testicular fortitude to stand up for yourself as a professional and executive, never mind a man, and tell this woman, ‘You’re fired too.’”
Kelly further suggested that if Maddow were one of her employees, she would have fired her immediately.
“If one of my employees ever did this to me, let’s say we started MK Network and we have MK employees who go from being my producers to going out there and offering commentary… It’s happened in many places. And they did this? I would fire them so fast,” Kelly stated.
She dismissed potential claims that firing Maddow would constitute “viewpoint discrimination” or a crackdown on free speech.
“No, you work for me!” Kelly added.
Before her final show on Monday, Joy Reid posted a reaction video in which she was visibly emotional.
She insisted she had no regrets about her previous on-air commentary.

Reid, who was known for race-focused monologues and left-wing commentary, stated that she was “not sorry” for “standing up” for her views on her now-canceled show.
With MSNBC continuing to restructure its lineup, it remains unclear whether network leadership will respond to Maddow’s public rebuke or if further programming changes are on the horizon.
