MSNBC is facing yet another shake-up, and this time, even Rachel Maddow’s team isn’t safe. The liberal network is making major staffing cuts, and many of Maddow’s production team members will soon be out of a job, as reported by Fox News.
Despite Maddow’s high-profile status—and her cushy, multi-million-dollar deal—her staff will be drastically reduced in April as part of the network’s latest production overhaul.

As MSNBC shifts its primetime focus on covering President Donald Trump’s first 100 days in office, Maddow will finish her five-nights-a-week schedule before transitioning back to her once-a-week Monday night slot.

The move, reportedly orchestrated by Maddow herself, keeps her show intact while many of her staffers get the boot.
A large portion of the employees being laid off also worked on “The Alex Wagner Show,” which had been filling Maddow’s Tuesday through Friday time slot before being axed.
In its place, MSNBC is rolling out a new lineup featuring “Inside with Jen Psaki.” Meanwhile, the shared Maddow-Wagner production team is being shown the door.
MSNBC has downplayed the mass layoffs, insisting these are simply “reallocations” as resources shift toward new programming.

The network is allowing affected staffers to reapply for other positions, but that’s little comfort for those now facing unemployment. Predictably, MSNBC declined to respond to Fox News Digital’s request for comment.
Maddow didn’t hold back in her response, using her Monday night show to call out her own network’s treatment of staff.
“Dozens of producers and staffers, including some who are among the most experienced and most talented… are facing being laid off. That has never happened at this scale in this way before.”
Maddow, who has spent years pushing corporate liberal narratives, suddenly finds herself at odds with the network’s corporate overlords.
She also took the opportunity to defend Joy Reid, whose show, “The ReidOut,” has been scrapped. Maddow showered Reid with praise, calling her “the colleague for whom I have had more affection and more respect than any other.”

Despite Maddow’s protests, MSNBC is moving forward with its decision to end Reid’s tenure. However, MSNBC isn’t exactly purging diversity, as Reid’s time slot is being handed over to Symone Sanders-Townsend, Michael Steele, and Alicia Menendez—hardly a conservative shift.
Maddow bemoaned MSNBC’s decision to cancel programs featuring “two non-White hosts” in its weekday lineup, referring to Reid and Wagner, as well as “The Katie Phang Show” on weekends.

While she called the move “indefensible,” she conveniently ignored the fact that the new hosts replacing them include Black and Latina commentators.
These cuts come amid a broader crisis in the left-wing media world. MSNBC isn’t alone in its struggles, as CNN, the Los Angeles Times, and The Washington Post have also been shedding employees.
The industry that once thrived on pushing anti-Trump hysteria is now reckoning with declining ratings and shrinking relevance.
Despite Maddow’s outrage, she remains one of the few at MSNBC with true job security, thanks to her massive $25 million salary deal. Meanwhile, her soon-to-be-former staffers are left scrambling to find new work.
