Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard issued a stark warning about national security threats facing the United States, pointing to radical Islamist terrorism as the most pressing danger.
Her statement stands in sharp contrast to the Biden administration’s previous claims that white supremacist extremism posed the greatest domestic security threat.
Speaking on the issue, Gabbard criticized the open-border policies of the Biden-Harris administration, stating that these policies have made the country more vulnerable to terror threats.

Gabbard addressed the issue by highlighting the ongoing risks associated with unchecked migration and security failures.
“We look at the past four years of open borders, where we had tens of millions of people coming across our borders, many of whom we don’t know who they are or what their intentions are,” Gabbard said.
“Very specifically, the threat of radical Islamist terrorism here within our country is higher than it’s ever been before, not only because of Biden’s open borders, but because of his and his administration’s fear of being called Islamophobes.”
Her statement comes as reports confirm that numerous individuals on the terror watch list have crossed into the United States via the southern border, with at least 99 of them released into the country.

Gabbard’s remarks reflect a stark departure from the stance taken by the Biden-Harris administration.
Under Biden’s leadership, federal intelligence agencies repeatedly stated that the most significant terror threat came from white supremacists, an assertion that many critics questioned given the global record of Islamist terror attacks.
In March 2021, FBI Director Christopher Wray testified before the Senate Judiciary Committee, claiming:
“The top threat we face from [domestic violent extremists] continues to be those we identify as Racially or Ethnically Motivated Violent Extremists (RMVEs), specifically those who advocate for the superiority of the white race.”
Two months later, Attorney General Merrick Garland echoed this sentiment, telling Congress that “violence incited by white supremacists poses the most dangerous threat to our democracy.”
Joe Biden repeated this claim during his April 2021 address to Congress, stating:
“We won’t ignore what our own intelligence agencies have determined – the most lethal terrorist threat to the homeland today is from white supremacist terrorism.”
Biden doubled down in June 2021, saying:
“According to the intelligence community, terrorism from white supremacy is the most lethal threat to the homeland today. Not ISIS, not al Qaeda — white supremacists.”
Gabbard’s statement directly challenges this longstanding narrative, arguing that national security priorities were distorted due to political concerns.
The push to frame domestic extremism as a white supremacist issue led to increased scrutiny of conservative Americans, including:
- FBI surveillance of parents protesting school board meetings
- Collaboration with social media platforms to censor opposing views
- Targeting of Catholic churches for pro-life advocacy
As Director of National Intelligence, Gabbard’s shift back toward prioritizing actual terrorist threats represents a major policy realignment.
However, she faces deep institutional resistance, as the intelligence community has been influenced by the Obama and Biden-era directives for years.
If Gabbard succeeds in refocusing intelligence efforts on real security risks, it would mark a major shift away from the political weaponization of federal agencies.
However, without a complete overhaul of the intelligence apparatus, the policies of the past decade could continue to undermine national security efforts.
With Islamist terrorism rising globally and border security failures escalating, Gabbard’s warning signals that the United States must quickly reevaluate its priorities before another preventable attack occurs on American soil.
