SiriusXM host Megyn Kelly criticized Democratic senators on Monday, suggesting their remarks may have influenced Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky’s tense Oval Office meeting with President Donald Trump and Vice President JD Vance.
The high-stakes discussion, which took place Friday, ended with Trump concluding that Zelensky was “not ready for peace if America is involved.”
The meeting between Trump and Zelensky became contentious, with the Ukrainian leader engaging in a heated exchange with both Trump and Vance.

In the aftermath, Democrats took to the media and social platforms to accuse Trump of siding with Russian President Vladimir Putin, calling him a “puppet” of Moscow.
During Monday’s episode of The Megyn Kelly Show, Kelly pointed to comments made by Democratic Senators Mark Kelly of Arizona and Chris Murphy of Connecticut before the meeting, questioning whether their statements influenced Zelensky’s approach.
“Why? Why would he have handled it this way? Well, perhaps we need look no further than the Democratic senators with whom Mr. Zelensky met before he went to the White House. I mean within the hour,” Kelly said.
Kelly played a clip of Sen. Mark Kelly speaking about his discussion with Zelensky, in which he reassured the Ukrainian leader of American support but also expressed unease about the structure of the agreement being negotiated.

“The American people are behind him in this struggle,” Mark Kelly said, adding that he felt “uncomfortable that this now appears to be sort of a business transaction.”
Kelly also highlighted a post made by Sen. Murphy on X ahead of the Oval Office meeting. Murphy posted a photo of himself with Zelensky and other officials, writing that Ukraine “will not support a fake peace agreement where Putin gets everything he wants and there are no security arrangements.”

“You see what he did,” Megyn Kelly said.
“His post accompanied a picture of Zelensky at a conference table with ‘Oh, who’s that across from him? It’s Senator Murphy, who’s right across from him.’ This was within one hour of Zelensky’s White House meeting.”
She went on to describe how Democrats framed Trump’s proposed agreement as illegitimate before the meeting even took place.
“The Democrats bashed the two-phase deal Trump was arranging of one, a financial agreement, and then, two, a ceasefire deal as, ‘A fake peace agreement with no security arrangements to Mr. Zelensky’ right before he went to the White House. ‘It’s fake. There’s no security arrangements. It’s a business deal. I’m uncomfortable with it. I want assurances.’ I guess, in Chris Murphy’s case, that the people that you’re not going to sign it.”
The U.S. confirmed its agreement with Ukraine to jointly develop mineral extraction projects on February 25, following weeks of negotiations.
According to reports, Zelensky had previously stated there could be no peace deal without Ukraine’s involvement.
However, on February 7, he told Reuters that he wanted to reach a mineral trade agreement with the U.S. to help bring an end to the war.
During the Oval Office meeting, tensions escalated when Trump pushed back against Zelensky’s criticism that the U.S. was not doing enough to stop Russia.
Trump warned Zelensky that he was “gambling” with the possibility of World War III, pointing out that the U.S. had already provided Ukraine with billions in aid.
Kelly further explained Trump’s position on the minerals deal, emphasizing its strategic role in U.S. security.
“Then he [Zelensky] went to the White House to sign what was clearly phase one. No, it wasn’t the ultimate ceasefire. It wasn’t the security arrangement deal. It was the first part of it, which was the minerals deal. Which is the thing that Trump has been saying all along will be, in essence, a form of U.S. security, because if we’re investing hundreds of billions of dollars trying to extract these raw earth materials from Ukraine, his theory is that Vladimir Putin will not mess with Ukraine,” Kelly said.
She also noted that European nations were expected to address military security concerns in the second phase of the agreement.
“But it was shat all over by Chris Murphy and others,” she said.
“The Democrats, now that it devolved to a fight, have reverted to their tried and true accusation that Trump is no more than Putin’s puppet, that this whole thing was an ambush by Trump of Zelensky because he wants to do the bidding of Vladimir Putin.”
Despite the public dispute, Zelensky later expressed gratitude toward the U.S. and its leadership.
He took to X to thank the country and, in an interview with Fox News’ Bret Baier, stated that he remained open to finalizing the deal.
And then there’s this clip of Chris Murphy in 2014 to provide some more context to the situation:
In 2014, Senator Chris Murphy bragged about the United States successfully overthrowing Ukraine’s government:
“I think it was our role, including sanctions and threats of sanctions, that forced, in part, Yanukovych from office.”
