FACT CHECK: Canadian Foreign Aid Website Not Deleted

A post shared on Facebook claims Canadian foreign aid was deleted from the Global Affairs Canada website.

Verdict: False

There is no evidence Global Affairs Canada deleted its database.

Fact Check:

Social media users are claiming that Global Affairs Canada deleted its database of foreign aid spending. One user wrote, “Global Affairs Canada has abruptly deleted its entire public database of foreign aid spending, rendering the data inaccessible to the public. Gee, I wonder why.”

This claim is false. Reuters reported that the website had been facing an outage in early February but that the website was still available. There is no evidence that it was taken off permanently and still remains accessible.

Development Canada pushed back on these claims in a Feb. 7 X post. (RELATED: Claim That Trump Plans To Invalidate Biden’s Student Loan Forgiveness Program Is Satire)

GAC’s Project Browser may still be experiencing slowdowns, however all data is available.

Our technicians continue working to resolve the situation and will keep Canadians informed.

Any claims that the page was taken down or that certain data has been removed are false.
