Former Georgia House Rep. Stacey Abrams has drawn scrutiny after revealing that her organization, Power Forward Communities, received $2 billion in taxpayer funding from Joe Biden’s Environmental Protection Agency (EPA).

The funding, which was allocated for “green” home appliance upgrades, has been criticized as a potential Democratic vote-buying scheme.

The grant was part of a broader $20 billion disbursement from the Biden-era EPA, a program that EPA Administrator Lee Zeldin described as a system of “gold bars” being passed through to left-wing organizations.

Zeldin highlighted that Abrams’ organization received an amount “20 million times the organization’s reported revenue” in a post on X in mid-February.

Abrams, a two-time Democratic gubernatorial candidate in Georgia, defended the funding during an early March interview on MSNBC.

She insisted that the grant was intended to help lower energy costs for Americans by replacing outdated appliances with energy-efficient models.

“In 2023 and 2024, I led a program called Revitalizing Desoto,” Abrams said, referring to an initiative she was involved in within South Georgia.

She explained that her work focused on helping residents replace inefficient appliances and that the EPA grant was meant to expand those efforts nationwide.

“Based on the success of this endeavor, a coalition of organizations came together to let us invest the money of America to lower the cost of Americans,” she added.

The large sum allocated to Abrams’ newly formed organization has led to comparisons to past Democratic-led government programs.

Steve Milloy, a former member of President Donald Trump’s first-term EPA transition team, was among those raising concerns about the grant.

The EPA funding program was initially framed as a way to invest in climate initiatives, but the specific allocation of funds—especially to groups with political ties—has led to questions about the transparency and oversight of the initiative.

With $20 billion in total grants distributed, concerns remain about how much of the funding will be used effectively versus how much will benefit politically connected groups.

The Biden administration has not responded to calls for greater accountability over how these funds were allocated.

It remains unclear how Power Forward Communities, an organization with minimal reported revenue, was selected to receive one of the largest grants in the program.
