Cyberattack on X Had Ukrainian IP Connections [WATCH]

Elon Musk sounded the alarm over a “massive cyberattack” on X that caused widespread outages throughout Monday. The tech mogul revealed that the attack, which temporarily crippled the platform, appeared to have originated from IP addresses in Ukraine, as reported by Breitbart.

Speaking with Larry Kudlow on Fox Business, Musk admitted that while the details were still being investigated, the attack was significant.

“There was a cyberattack on X today, which shut it down and may have been foreign-sourced,” Kudlow remarked.

“We’re not sure exactly what happened,” Musk responded. “But there was a massive cyberattack to try to bring down the X system, with IP addresses originating in the Ukraine area.”

The outage set off a flurry of speculation about what—or who—was behind it. As Breitbart’s Lucas Nolan reported, a hacker group called “Dark Storm Team” took credit for the disruption, though no independent verification has confirmed their involvement.

The cyberattack followed a classic Distributed Denial of Service (DDoS) pattern, where an overwhelming flood of traffic bombards a website until it crashes.

According to Downdetector, the trouble started around 6:00 a.m. when more than 20,600 users reported issues with X. By 6:17 a.m., reports dropped to 720, but outages returned mid-morning.

At 10:02 a.m., complaints skyrocketed to 41,143, before dropping to around 1,361 by 10:32 a.m. By 11:02 a.m., outages had risen again to 4,670. The attacks weren’t over.

By early afternoon, they surged to 36,064 at 1:02 p.m., before tapering off again. Another spike hit at 2:02 p.m., with 19,446 outage reports.

This wasn’t just an inconvenience—it was an all-out assault on one of the world’s most influential social media platforms.Musk later took to X to confirm the attack, warning that it was far more than a typical cyber nuisance.

“There was (still is) a massive cyberattack against X,” Musk posted. He noted that while X faces cyber threats daily, this one was on another level. “This was done with a lot of resources. Either a large, coordinated group and/or a country is involved.”

The timing of the attack raises serious questions. Was this an attempt to silence voices on X, a platform that has grown into a hub for free speech under Musk’s leadership? Given the geopolitical climate, is it far-fetched to suspect state-backed actors might have a hand in the disruption?

For now, X seems to have weathered the storm, but Musk’s warning is clear: the battle over digital free speech isn’t just ideological—it’s now a cyberwar.
