A new poll conducted by SSRS in partnership with CNN has revealed that the Democratic Party’s approval rating has dropped to an all-time low.

According to the survey, only 29 percent of Americans hold a favorable view of the party, marking the lowest level recorded in the poll’s 30-year history.

CNN’s Manu Raju noted that the Democratic Party’s favorability has plummeted by more than 20 percentage points in just four years, down from a high of 49 percent.

The decline follows widespread dissatisfaction among voters on key issues, including economic policy, immigration, and social initiatives such as transgender policies and diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) programs.

The results come in the wake of the November presidential election, where President Trump secured victory in all seven swing states, outperformed polling expectations by approximately four points, and became the first Republican to win the popular vote since 2004.

The outcome was seen as a major rebuke of Democratic policies, but the latest poll suggests that many Democrat voters remain committed to opposing Trump rather than reassessing their party’s direction.

According to the poll, 57 percent of Democrat respondents and Democrat-leaning independents want the party to take a more aggressive stance against President Trump and his agenda.

Meanwhile, 42 percent believe Democrats should cooperate with Republicans when possible, as seen in this week’s vote to prevent a government shutdown.

CNN’s write-up of the survey noted that this marks a significant shift in Democratic sentiment since Trump’s first term.

In a September 2017 poll, 74 percent of Democrats and Democrat-leaning independents believed their party should work with Republicans to advance their priorities, while just 23 percent supported a combative approach.

In addition to the declining favorability, the poll found that a majority of Democrats and Democrat-leaning respondents, 52 percent, believe their party is heading in the wrong direction.

This is a dramatic reversal from 2017, when most Democrats expressed satisfaction with their party’s trajectory.

Among Democrats, overall party favorability has dropped across ideological lines.

The survey found that just 63 percent of Democrats and Democrat-leaning independents currently view the party favorably, a significant decrease from 72 percent in January and 81 percent at the start of the Biden-Harris administration.

Support has fallen by 18 percent among both liberals and moderates.

By contrast, Republican approval remains significantly higher among its base.

The poll found that 79 percent of Republicans and Republican-leaning independents view the GOP favorably.

Among independents, however, dissatisfaction remains high with both parties. Just 20 percent of independents expressed a favorable view of the Republican Party, while only 19 percent said the same about Democrats.

The findings highlight a growing divide within the Democratic Party as it faces increasing scrutiny from voters.

With the 2024 election results signaling a rejection of many Democratic policies, the party’s declining approval suggests ongoing internal struggles as it determines its direction moving forward.
