Voters are continuing to think highly of President Donald Trump’s leadership and strongly believe America is on the right track in the early days of the administration, according to a recent NBC News poll.
Trump notched a 47% approval rating alongside a 46% personal favorable rating, both of which marked all-time highs during either of his presidential terms, according to a NBC News poll released Sunday. Meanwhile, the number of Americans who believe the country is on the right track climbed to 44%, also marking a record high for Trump’s political career.
Still, there was a partisan divide on whether voters think the U.S. is on the right track under Trump’s leadership, with only 6% of Democrats saying that things in the nation are “generally headed in the right direction,” compared to 83% of Republicans, according to the poll. Meanwhile, the poll found that only 26% of Independent voters said they thought the nation was going in the right direction.
Despite Trump’s high marks in other areas, his handling of the economy is a concern among Americans, with just 18% of voters rating the economy as “excellent” or “good,” according to the poll.
Other recent surveys have also shown relatively high approval ratings for Trump’s leadership, including a CNN poll conducted by SSRS released March 12, which found that Trump gained a 45% approval rating alongside a 54% disapproval rating. Moreover, 50% of voters said they approve of Trump’s job performance, while just 48% disapprove, according to a daily tracking poll by Rasmussen Reports released Monday.
Since returning to the Oval Office on Jan. 20, Trump has introduced various executive actions to begin completing his campaign promises, including spearheading a massive crackdown on illegal immigration, and moving to overturn many Biden-era energy and environmental regulations.

Subsequently, a string of recent polls have revealed that many Americans currently view the Democratic Party unfavorably. The party received a 29% favorability rating, a new record low, according to a CNN poll conducted by SSRS released Sunday. Democrats have also been struggling to develop clear messaging since Trump swept all seven battleground states in the November 2024 presidential election, brutally defeating former Vice President Kamala Harris’ campaign.
The NBC News poll surveyed 1,000 registered voters from March 7 to 11, via a mix of telephone interviews and an online survey sent via text message. The margin of error is plus or minus 3.1 percentage points.
Rasmussen Reports’ daily tracking results are collected via telephone surveys of 300 likely voters per night and reported on a five-day rolling average basis.
The CNN survey released March 12 was conducted by SSRS, and surveys were obtained March 6 to 9, 2025, with a representative sample of n=1,206 respondents. The margin of sampling error for total respondents is +/-3.3 at the 95% confidence level.
