Letitia James Responds to Mortgage Fraud Criminal Referral and YIKES! [WATCH]

New York Attorney General Letitia James, known for her aggressive pursuit of President Donald Trump, is now facing serious legal scrutiny herself.

Federal Housing Finance Agency (FHFA) Director William Pulte has formally referred James to the U.S. Department of Justice following allegations that she committed mortgage fraud related to a property in Virginia.

The referral stems from accusations that James misrepresented key details on mortgage applications, including allegedly listing a Virginia property as her primary residence while serving as New York’s top law enforcement official.

Additionally, records show she listed her father as her spouse on documentation to secure favorable loan terms.

One of the mortgages in question totals $218,780.

The alleged conduct under review involves questions about whether James falsely claimed the Virginia property as a principal residence, a designation that can impact eligibility for certain lending programs and rates.

At the time, James was actively serving in New York, which has raised questions about how the designation was legally justified.

In public remarks following the referral, James dismissed the allegations and suggested they were politically motivated.

“Let me just say to all New Yorkers and to all Americans: the allegations are baseless,” she said.

“The allegations are nothing more than a revenge tour.”

James linked the scrutiny to her civil case against Donald Trump, in which she secured a $454 million judgment earlier this year over alleged financial misrepresentations related to property values.

“My office was successful in securing a $454 million judgment against Donald Trump and others for exaggerating the value of his assets,” she said.

“He engaged in a pattern and practice of fraud, and the interest is accruing each and every day while the case is on appeal in the First Department.”

In that same statement, James asserted her office is “leading the fight” against policies she claims harm New Yorkers, and added, “I will not be silenced. I will not be bullied. I will not bend, I will not break, and I will not bow to anyone. No one is above the law, including the President of these United States.”

James did not directly address the specifics of the Virginia mortgage documentation, nor did she comment on the claim that her father was listed as a spouse on loan paperwork.

The mortgage fraud allegations are now expected to undergo formal review by the Department of Justice following the FHFA referral.

Whether that review results in a criminal investigation remains to be seen.

The Department has not yet publicly commented on the referral.

The FHFA oversees matters related to mortgage compliance and the integrity of federally backed loan programs.

Referrals to the DOJ are made when federal agencies believe there may be violations of law that warrant investigation or prosecution.
