Department of Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem had her purse stolen while dining at a Washington, D.C., restaurant on Sunday evening.
The stolen bag reportedly contained $3,000 in cash, identification documents, and other personal items, including her DHS badge, as reported by The New York Post.
The incident occurred at The Capital Burger, located about one mile from the White House. According to a person familiar with the case, Noem had just paid for dinner when she felt a brush against her leg.

Initially thinking it was one of her grandchildren, she soon realized her purse had been taken.
A spokesperson for Noem confirmed that the stolen bag included her driver’s license, passport, DHS badge, makeup, personal checks, medication, and apartment keys.
Surveillance footage reviewed by the U.S. Secret Service shows a white male suspect wearing a surgical mask taking the bag before leaving the restaurant. As of Monday afternoon, the suspect remained unidentified.
It is unclear what level of security detail Noem had at the time of the theft. As a Cabinet-level official, Noem is entitled to Secret Service protection, similar to other senior government figures.

The Secret Service has since launched an investigation and is working to track the use of any of Noem’s financial items.
A spokesperson for the Secret Service did not respond to a request for comment on the case or provide details about the investigation.
Noem, 53, assumed her role as Homeland Security Secretary in late January, after serving as governor of South Dakota. Since taking the post, she has maintained a visible role in the Trump administration’s renewed focus on border enforcement and national security.
In March, Noem visited El Salvador’s Terrorism Confinement Center, a high-security megaprison, to highlight international cooperation on gang enforcement and deterrence.

President Trump and I have a clear message to criminal illegal aliens: LEAVE NOW.
If you do not leave, we will hunt you down, arrest you, and you could end up in this El Salvadorian prison.”
She warned that gang members who attempt to illegally cross the U.S. border could face transfer to facilities like the one in El Salvador.
As DHS Secretary, Noem oversees the administration’s immigration enforcement, border control, and homeland security strategy — a central component of President Trump’s second-term agenda.
The investigation into the theft is ongoing.
