Pro Football Hall of Famer and media personality Shannon Sharpe is pushing back against rape allegations filed by an ex-girlfriend in a Nevada court, releasing explicit text messages and publicly identifying the woman behind the lawsuit.
The civil complaint, filed under the pseudonym “Jane Doe,” alleges multiple instances of sexual assault in 2024 and 2025.
Sharpe, 56, has denied the allegations and claims the lawsuit is a calculated attempt to secure a large financial payout.

Sharpe’s legal team, led by attorney Lanny J. Davis, issued a statement Monday characterizing the lawsuit as a “blatant and cynical attempt to shake down Mr. Sharpe for millions of dollars.”
The filing was submitted by attorney Tony Buzbee on behalf of Jane Doe.
According to Davis, the plaintiff secretly recorded a consensual sexual encounter and is now allegedly attempting to use that video against Sharpe in court.
“In her effort to extract a large financial settlement, [Jane Doe] presented Mr. Sharpe with a secretly recorded video of a consensual sexual encounter,” Davis stated.

“We believe the video has been heavily edited and taken entirely out of context, crafted to falsely portray a consensual act as non-consensual. [Jane Doe] has refused to provide a copy of the full, unedited version of the recording to Mr. Sharpe’s legal team.”
In an effort to challenge the credibility of the allegations, Sharpe’s legal team released a series of sexually graphic messages purportedly sent by the plaintiff.
One message read, “i want you to put a dog collar around my neck and choke me with it while ur f**king me.”
Another message read, “$25k for each cheek,” referring to a sexual request.
According to Sharpe’s team, these messages were sent in late 2023 and early 2024, and demonstrate a pattern of consensual, intimate communication.
“To set the record straight, we are releasing several of [Jane Doe’s] own explicit text messages to Mr. Sharpe that clearly indicate the nature of their relationship was consensual and sexual in nature — and, in many cases, initiated by her with specific and graphic requests,” Davis added.
The woman, who met Sharpe in 2023 when she was 20, claims the former NFL star pursued her persistently, eventually beginning a relationship in which she alleges Sharpe demanded control over her time and presence.
According to the lawsuit, she became fearful during an argument in which she claims a handgun was visible and Sharpe allegedly threatened her after she tried sharing her location via iPhone.
The complaint also includes allegations of emotional manipulation and an incident in which Sharpe requested the woman sign a non-disclosure agreement.
The plaintiff states that she refused multiple times, at which point the request was dropped.
The lawsuit comes at a time when Sharpe’s media profile is expanding rapidly.
According to Front Office Sports, Sharpe is in negotiations for a new podcasting deal that could exceed $100 million.
His current show, Club Shay Shay, has approximately 4 million subscribers and continues to generate high engagement.
A recent episode featuring comedian Katt Williams has surpassed 90 million views.
Sharpe is also a regular contributor on ESPN and maintains a strong presence on social media.
It is unclear how the legal proceedings may affect his standing with current or prospective media platforms.
His agent has not commented on the potential impact to ongoing negotiations.
Attorney Tony Buzbee has not yet responded publicly to the statements released by Sharpe’s legal team.
The case remains active in Nevada civil court.
