A resurfaced video clip from 2008 is drawing attention for showcasing former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton endorsing immigration policies that closely resemble those now enforced by President Donald Trump’s administration, as reported by The Blaze.

In the clip, recorded during Clinton’s 2008 presidential campaign, she delivered remarks that align more closely with current conservative immigration platforms than with the Democratic Party’s present stance.

SCRANTON, PENNSYLVANIA/USA – AUGUST 15, 2016: Presidential candidate Hillary Clinton appears during a rally alongside Vice President Joe Biden on Aug. 15, 2016, in Scranton, Pennsylvania.

“I think we’ve got to have tough conditions,” Clinton said at the time. “Tell people to come out of the shadows. If they’ve committed a crime, deport them, no questions asked. They’re gone.”

She continued by outlining terms for those who remained in the country:

“If they’ve been working, and are law-abiding, we should say, ‘Here are the conditions for you staying: You have to pay a stiff fine because you came here illegally, you have to pay back taxes, and you have to try to learn English, and you have to wait in line.’”

The comments were highlighted this week on BlazeTV’s Pat Gray Unleashed, where Gray and co-host Keith Malinak responded with surprise.

“Head of the Republican National Committee?” Gray joked after playing the clip. Malinak replied, “I don’t know who that was,” reacting to how closely Clinton’s remarks aligned with conservative policy.

The clip has resurfaced at a time when the Trump administration is reinforcing strict immigration enforcement measures, many of which mirror the tone and substance of Clinton’s 2008 position.

White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt reaffirmed the administration’s stance in a recent statement:

“All foreign nationals present in the United States longer than 30 days must register with the federal government. Failure to comply with this is a crime punishable by fines, imprisonment, or both.”

Leavitt added, “If you register and you leave now, you choose to self-deport, you may have the opportunity to return later legally. If not, you will be arrested, fined, deported, never to return to our country again.”

“The Trump administration will continue to enforce our nation’s immigration laws,” Leavitt said. “We will not pick and choose which laws to enforce. We must know who is in our country for the safety and the security of our homeland and for all American citizens.”

Reacting to the clip and the contrast in political narratives over the years, Gray remarked, “Yep, pretty reasonable.”

The resurfacing of Clinton’s 2008 comments has reignited discussions about the Democratic Party’s evolving immigration stance and the growing distance between its past rhetoric and current positions.
