Kristi Noem, DHS Launch SAVE Upgrade to Shut Down Migrant Fraud

The Department of Homeland Security (DHS), in coordination with the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) and U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS), announced plans Tuesday to overhaul a key immigration database system as part of a broader initiative to streamline deportations and clamp down on voter and entitlement fraud.

As reported by Fox News, the changes target the Systematic Alien Verification for Entitlements (SAVE) program, a federal system established in 1987 that provides state and local agencies with access to immigration data for noncitizens.

The planned update, DHS told Fox News Digital exclusively, is aimed at improving the speed and accuracy of immigration status checks and preventing illegal exploitation of government resources.

Among the most notable changes: the elimination of search fees, mass verification capabilities, enhanced integration with criminal databases, and a new user interface intended to improve accessibility for authorized agencies.

“Illegal aliens have exploited outdated systems to defraud Americans and taint our elections,” a DHS spokesperson said.

“This revamped SAVE system ensures government officials can swiftly verify statuses, halting entitlement and voter fraud.”

The SAVE system currently allows agencies to input various types of identifying information, such as an individual’s Alien number or I-94 form number, to retrieve immigration status records.

The new version will expand those capabilities, enabling faster checks across larger groups and making it easier for local governments to determine eligibility for benefits or identify fraudulent activity.

The DHS overhaul follows a series of legal battles regarding immigration enforcement, including a recent U.S. Supreme Court ruling that temporarily blocked the Trump administration from removing certain Venezuelan migrants under the Alien Enemies Act of 1798.

The justices’ decision prevented deportations of a group of migrants held at a Texas detention facility, pending further court orders.

Justice Samuel Alito issued a pointed dissent, criticizing the high court’s process.

“Court issued unprecedented and legally questionable relief without giving the lower courts a chance to rule, without hearing from the opposing party, within eight hours of receiving the application, with dubious factual support for its order, and without providing any explanation for its order.”

Despite the ruling, the Trump administration has remained committed to reducing illegal immigration. Border encounters have significantly declined under President Donald Trump’s leadership.

The updated SAVE platform will serve as a tool to enhance accountability, close systemic loopholes, and provide law enforcement with greater support in the field. DHS expects the first phase of the updated program to begin rollout later this year.
