The Philadelphia Eagles visited the White House on Monday to celebrate their Super Bowl LIX championship with President Donald Trump, marking a long-awaited event after a previously canceled visit in 2018.

The celebration took place on the South Lawn and featured a series of light moments, including an exchange between Trump and star running back Saquon Barkley.

“The season started off slow, but you soon caught fire with your great coach inspiring you and you got the ball to your superstar running back who I met yesterday,” President Trump told the crowd, drawing laughter and smiles from the Eagles players.

“And I want to tell you, he is — he’s a handsome guy — but I wouldn’t want to tackle him. Saquon Barkley. Where’s Saquon?”

Trump continued his remarks by praising Barkley’s character and recounting a recent encounter.

“I got to know him a little bit. He’s great. I offered him a ride on Air Force One because I was coming down,” Trump said.

“Usually they say, ‘No, no, I don’t think so.’ He said, ‘I’ll take it, sir.’ And he loved it.”

Barkley, who joined the Eagles ahead of the 2024 season, played a major role in the team’s 40–22 Super Bowl victory over the Kansas City Chiefs.

Although Barkley’s Super Bowl statistics included 57 rushing yards and 40 receiving yards, his regular season performance was historic.

Barkley led the NFL with 2,005 rushing yards, setting a new Eagles franchise record.

Including postseason play, he finished with 2,504 rushing yards, surpassing Hall of Famer Terrell Davis’ 1998 record.

Barkley also set a new NFL record for combined scrimmage yards in a season, finishing with 2,857 yards.

Monday’s White House visit was significant, as it marked the first time the Eagles celebrated a Super Bowl victory at the White House.

In 2018, a planned visit was canceled amid political tensions between the team and the Trump administration.

Over the weekend, Barkley’s meeting with Trump drew attention on social media after photos surfaced showing the two together at Trump National Golf Club in Bedminster, New Jersey.

Barkley addressed the discussion directly, writing on social media, “Maybe I just respect the office, not a hard concept to understand.”

He added, “Now ya get out my mentions with all this politics and have amazing day,” along with a cry-laughing emoji.

At Monday’s event in Washington, Barkley appeared focused on celebrating the team’s achievements rather than engaging in political debates.

As Trump described it, “We love being together. He’s a great — he’s a great young guy.”

Notably absent from the White House ceremony was Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts.

The White House stated that Hurts missed the event due to “scheduling conflicts.”

However, speculation has grown after Hurts’ reaction to a question about the White House visit at last week’s TIME100 Gala suggested possible reluctance to attend.
