Newly surfaced court documents show that Jennifer Vasquez, the wife of Kilmar Abrego Garcia, filed a detailed petition for a protective order in 2020 alleging repeated physical and verbal abuse by her husband while they lived in Maryland.
The revelations come as Abrego Garcia, an illegal immigrant from El Salvador with suspected gang ties, remains at the center of a high-profile legal battle following his deportation under President Donald Trump’s mass immigration enforcement directive.
The 2020 filing, reviewed by Just the News, marks the earliest known petition filed by Vasquez and contradicts public narratives portraying Abrego Garcia as a peaceful family man.
NEW: @FoxNews has obtained a second protective order filed against “Maryland Man” Kilmar Abrego Garcia by his wife in 2020, in which she accuses him of physical abuse, threatening her, & says she has a recording where he says even if he kills her, “nobody can do anything to him”.…

According to the complaint, Vasquez described a violent household environment in which she and her children were subjected to fear and intimidation.
In the August 2020 petition, Vasquez recounted an incident where Abrego Garcia allegedly locked their children in a basement, slapped her, and broke her phone during a confrontation with law enforcement.

“This is not the 1st time, it been [sic] a couple of occasion [sic] he takes my phone, and car [illegible] left without be able to call anyone,” she wrote.
She further stated, “I have photos of all the bruises his [sic] left on my body,” and detailed numerous instances of physical abuse, including being kicked, slapped, and dragged by her hair.
Vasquez also claimed that Abrego Garcia once told a family member that even if he killed her, no one would hold him accountable.
“I also have a recorded [sic] that his [sic] told my ex-mother-in-law that even if he kills me no one can do anything to him,” she wrote.
The complaint included allegations from both 2019 and 2020 involving physical violence, destruction of property, and threats.

In 2021, Vasquez filed a second protective order, alleging that Abrego Garcia punched and scratched her, leaving bruises.

That case was later dismissed when Vasquez did not appear at the final hearing.
Despite these filings, Vasquez has publicly downplayed the severity of her allegations.
In a statement provided to media outlets, she described her 2020 complaint as a precautionary measure.
“After surviving domestic violence in a previous relationship, I acted out of caution following a disagreement with Kilmar by seeking a civil protective order, in case things escalated,” she stated.
“Things did not escalate, and I decided not to follow through with the civil court process.”
Abrego Garcia was deported to El Salvador in March, during President Trump’s first 100 days back in office.
He was among approximately 20 individuals removed from the U.S. under expanded immigration enforcement operations targeting MS-13 affiliates.
Salvadoran authorities placed the group into a maximum-security prison designated for gang members.
Abrego Garcia’s attorneys have argued that his deportation violated a 2019 court order, which barred his removal to El Salvador due to a claimed fear of persecution.
However, the order did not prohibit removal to other countries. His lawyers also state that Abrego Garcia was never convicted of gang-related charges and deny that he is affiliated with MS-13.
Nonetheless, federal records and investigative reports have raised further concerns.
A 2022 traffic stop flagged Abrego Garcia as a “suspect alien” potentially involved in human smuggling or trafficking, according to Homeland Security.

The vehicle he was driving was registered to a man who pleaded guilty to alien smuggling and was later deported.
The ongoing legal battle has become a flashpoint in national immigration policy, with implications for the Trump administration’s broader deportation agenda.
While Abrego Garcia’s attorneys continue to challenge the legality of his removal, newly disclosed court filings and federal records are adding pressure to efforts to reverse his deportation.
