President Donald Trump pushed back forcefully during a pre-recorded Meet the Press interview that aired Sunday morning, responding to a series of questions from NBC host Kristen Welker as the two sat down at Mar-a-Lago to discuss Trump’s first 100 days in office.

The interview covered a range of topics, with Welker pressing Trump on his policies, his tone, and his critics. During one segment, Welker asked the president to respond to accusations that he is leading the country in an authoritarian direction.

“What do you say to those who believe you are taking the country down an authoritarian path?” Welker asked.

Trump responded with a reference to former President Ronald Reagan, saying:

“Well, there you go again. Why don’t you ask in a different way?”

Trump went on to highlight that the U.S. remains a top destination for immigrants, which he attributed in part to his administration’s policies.

“Many people want to come into our country,” Trump said. “Many people love Trump.”

The president also emphasized the legitimacy of his election victory and pointed to what he described as overwhelming support across key battleground states.

“I won the election, they didn’t win the election,” Trump said. “I won the popular vote, I won ALL seven swing states by A LOT.”

He then referenced allegations of voter fraud and election irregularities, while asserting the scope of his win rendered such issues moot.

“Actually, I thought there was a lot of hanky panky going on, but it was too big to rig,” Trump stated. “So, when you make these statements, ‘people say this, people say that,’ well, they had their chance at the election and they lost big.”

At that point in the interview, Welker attempted to interject, but Trump cut her off and suggested the framing of her questions was flawed.

“You should ask the question differently,” he said. “You should say what about the people who want to be in this country?”

Welker then responded that she was trying to give Trump a chance to address his critics. Trump replied that Americans who support his agenda would be satisfied with the administration’s early results.

“These people are going to be very happy,” Trump said. “It was an absolutely unprecedented 100 days.”

The interview, taped at Trump’s Mar-a-Lago residence in Palm Beach, Florida, comes as his administration completes its first 100 days in office.

The White House has pointed to surging military recruitment, major cost-cutting reforms, and historic border enforcement as key milestones during that period.

NBC and Meet the Press promoted the interview as part of a broader effort to sit down with top national political leaders.

While the discussion included several contentious exchanges, Trump remained focused on defending his record and dismissing criticism regarding his leadership style and policy direction.

No follow-up comments have been issued by NBC regarding the interview’s reception.
