A 2018 interview clip of Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-MN) resurfaced on social media this week, prompting strong criticism from prominent conservatives, including Vice President J.D. Vance and GOP leaders in Congress, as reported by Fox News.

The footage shows Omar claiming that Americans should be “more fearful of White men” in response to a question about domestic terrorism threats and jihadism in the United States.

The comments, made during an Al-Jazeera interview, were circulated widely online by conservative accounts, including LibsofTikTok and Laura Loomer, drawing millions of views.

“I would say our country should be more fearful of White men across our country, because they are actually causing most of the deaths within this country,” Omar said in the interview.

“And so if fear was the driving force of policies to keep America safe, Americans safe inside of this country, we should be profiling, monitoring, and creating policies to fight the radicalization of White men.”

Vice President Vance condemned the statement in a post on X, formerly Twitter, writing, “This isn’t just sick; it’s actually genocidal language. What a disgrace this person is.”

GOP Majority Whip Rep. Tom Emmer (R-MN), who represents Minnesota’s 6th District, added, “@ilhanMN never ceases to be an embarrassment for Minnesota.”

Omar’s office directed Fox News Digital to a recent post on her X account responding to the backlash. In it, she defended her 2018 comments by citing an Anti-Defamation League report that stated white supremacists were responsible for 78 percent of “extremist-related murders” that year.

She added:

“PS you should look up what ‘genocidal’ actually means when you’re actively supporting a genocide taking place in Gaza.”

The renewed controversy follows closely on another incident in which Omar made headlines for cursing at a reporter. After being asked by a Daily Caller News Foundation journalist about Democrats defending a deported illegal immigrant in El Salvador, Omar responded, “F**k off.”

Omar also replied to critics, sharing the resurfaced Al-Jazeera clip on X, saying, “I said what I said. You and all your miserable trolls can f**k off.”
