Brazilian authorities have arrested a 44-year-old man, Luis da Silva, just hours before he allegedly planned to carry out a violent attack during a Lady Gaga concert held Saturday at Copacabana Beach in Rio de Janeiro.

The concert drew an estimated crowd of over 2 million people.

Da Silva, who was deported from the United States last month, was reportedly plotting a mass attack targeting concert attendees.

According to the Rio de Janeiro Civil Police, he planned to detonate explosives near the stage and livestream acts of violence.

Police say the plot included plans to kill children during the performance.

“He said that the singer was a Satanist and that he was going to perform a Satanist ritual too, killing a child during the show,” said Felipe Curi, secretary of the Civil Police in Rio de Janeiro, during a press conference on Monday.

Investigators revealed that da Silva, along with a 17-year-old accomplice, had prepared to use Molotov cocktails and explosive devices disguised as backpacks.

Both suspects were taken into custody just hours before the concert began. The arrests reportedly followed a joint intelligence effort that tracked the suspects’ movements and online activity.

Da Silva had recently returned to Brazil following his removal from the United States under President Donald Trump’s ongoing immigration enforcement directive.

The New York Post reported that he was previously residing in the U.S. illegally and had come under law enforcement scrutiny.

His deportation was part of an initiative targeting foreign nationals with criminal or high-risk backgrounds.

Tom Homan, the Border Czar overseeing immigration enforcement under the Trump administration, has previously stated that the administration’s policy is to remove “the worst first” — referring to individuals with criminal histories or connections to extremist behavior.

Da Silva was reportedly arrested in Brazil on charges related to illegal firearm possession and was released on bail pending further investigation.

Authorities have not ruled out additional charges related to the planned concert attack.

The concert, which took place without incident, featured Lady Gaga performing for what her team described as one of the largest crowds in her career.

Gaga has not made a direct public comment about the plot, but her spokesperson issued a statement acknowledging the reports.

“We learned of this alleged threat through media reports this morning,” the representative said on Sunday.

“Prior to and during the show, there were no known security concerns, nor any communication from police or authorities to Lady Gaga about any potential risks.”

Lady Gaga posted on social media following the performance: “Nothing could prepare me for the feeling I had during last night’s show — the absolute pride and joy I felt singing for the people of Brazil. The sight of the crowd during my opening songs took my breath away.”

She added, “An estimated 2.5 million people came to see me sing, the biggest crowd for any woman in history. I wish I could share this feeling with the whole world.”

Authorities in Brazil continue to investigate the suspects’ broader intentions, online communications, and whether any other individuals may have been involved in planning or coordinating the failed attack.

Security measures at large-scale events remain heightened as law enforcement works to identify threats linked to extremist ideologies or targeted violence.
