Prevost, a resident of Port Charlotte, Florida, has drawn attention from media outlets and political commentators following the election of his brother, Cardinal Robert Prevost, as the head of the Roman Catholic Church.

Upon taking the papal name Leo XIV, the new pope became the first American-born pontiff.

Shortly after the announcement, posts from Lou Prevost’s personal Facebook account began circulating online.

In one post, he shared a video parodying individuals affected by “Trump Derangement Syndrome,” a term used by some conservative commentators to mock critics of the president.

Prevost captioned the post, “For my upset, crying, and left-leaning friends and others suffering from TDS, this service seems right for you.”

Other posts included criticism of then-Speaker Nancy Pelosi.

In one reposted video from April 4, Prevost highlighted footage of Pelosi advocating for tariffs on China during the 1990s.

The caption on the post accused Democratic leaders of reversing their positions to align with what he described as a globalist agenda.

One post read: “These f**king liberals crying about tariffs is just unreal. Do they not know that there is a thing called video? Just listen to what this drunk c*** has to say in the mid 90s long before her husband had Grindr dates.”

Additional posts reflect Prevost’s support for former President Trump and criticism of Democratic leadership. In a statement attributed to him and shared by The Gateway Pundit, Prevost wrote: “Obama and the Democrats. They suck. They’re one very small step from being full blown communists, longing for the total destruction of our way of life and turning this country into a dictatorship, and a racist one on top of it.”

The scrutiny of Lou Prevost’s political views follows broader interest in his connection to Pope Leo XIV. While the pope has remained largely private about his family’s political leanings, reports have emerged regarding his own past voting record.

According to documentation provided by the Will County clerk’s office in Illinois and reviewed by PolitiFact, Pope Leo XIV — formerly Robert Prevost — participated in the Republican primaries in 2012, 2014, and 2016. He was listed as having an “undeclared” party affiliation and voted absentee in the 2024 general election.

A separate database, L2, which compiles voter and consumer data, lists “Republican” under Prevost’s party field.

However, Illinois does not require voters to register by party affiliation, and L2 has not disclosed how it determines party alignment for voters in such states. L2 did not respond to media requests for comment.

Despite participating in past Republican primaries, Pope Leo XIV has expressed disagreement with some Trump administration policies, particularly those related to immigration.

The Vatican has not issued a statement regarding the media attention surrounding the pope’s brother. Pope Leo XIV has not commented on the controversy.

As public interest in the personal backgrounds of major figures continues, Lou Prevost’s political views remain a point of discussion, especially as they contrast with the expectations traditionally associated with family members of a sitting pontiff.
