Former President Joe Biden is facing internal backlash from within his own party, with a top campaign adviser accusing him of sabotaging Vice President Kamala Harris’ failed 2024 White House bid by staying in the race too long before dropping out, as reported by The New York Post.
According to a newly released book co-authored by CNN anchor Jake Tapper, David Plouffe — a senior adviser to former President Barack Obama and a key figure in Harris’ campaign — directly blamed Biden for Harris’ loss to President Donald Trump, calling the short-lived campaign a “f**king nightmare.”
“And it’s all Biden,” Plouffe reportedly told the authors. “He totally f**ked us.”

Plouffe’s comments come from excerpts obtained by The Guardian, which detail how Biden’s delayed decision to exit the race negatively impacted the Democratic ticket’s ability to regroup and prepare Harris for a competitive run.
Harris entered the race just 107 days before Election Day, after Biden officially withdrew and endorsed her.
Biden’s late-stage withdrawal followed weeks of pressure amid growing concerns about his age, repeated gaffes, and multiple public stumbles.
During that time, the White House maintained that Biden remained physically and mentally fit for the presidency. But the behind-the-scenes tension within the party was reportedly growing.

“I love Joe Biden. When it comes to decency, there are few in politics like him,” one senior Harris aide is quoted as saying in the book. “Still, it was a disservice to the country and to the party for his family and advisers to allow him to run again.”
A Democratic strategist took it further, stating:
“It was an abomination. He stole an election from the Democratic Party; he stole it from the American people.”
While critics within the Democratic ranks have cited mounting evidence of Biden’s physical and cognitive decline, a spokesperson for Biden dismissed the book’s claims and insisted there was no breakdown in his ability to perform his duties.

“Yes, there were physical changes as he got older, but evidence of aging is not evidence of mental incapacity,” the spokesperson said. “And so far, we are still waiting for someone, anyone, to point out where Joe Biden had to make a presidential decision or make a presidential address where he was unable to do his job because of mental decline.”
Despite the defense, Biden’s approval ratings and polling numbers had been declining steadily in the months leading up to his exit.
His decision to endorse Harris came only weeks before the Democratic National Convention, giving her limited time to build national momentum against Trump, who had already been campaigning for months.
