Meghan Markle has once again stirred controversy with comments about her time as a royal, particularly her experience as a mother within the monarchy.
In a recent episode of her new podcast, Confessions of a Female Founder, Meghan opened up about the dreams she once had for motherhood as a member of the British royal family.
However, her reflections quickly drew backlash, with critics arguing that her own decisions and actions are responsible for the downfall of those dreams.

“I will say… I’ve always wanted to be a mom,” said Meghan, 43, during the podcast episode. “I was like, ‘Oh gosh, I’m going to give a speech with a baby on my hip.’ I had a whole vision.”
Yet that vision, according to Meghan, was never realized.
“Granted, I had a lot of external things happening by the time I had both pregnancies and both babies,” she admitted. “But it was not the way I envisioned it.”

While Meghan’s comments might resonate with those who understand the unpredictability of motherhood, especially under public scrutiny, royal commentators were quick to challenge the narrative she painted.
Royal expert Richard Fitzwilliams, a frequent commentator on the royal family, countered her portrayal, suggesting the blame for her failed royal motherhood dream lies squarely with Meghan and her husband, Prince Harry.
“What is certain is that the rift caused by the Sussexes’ behavior and their brutal attacks on the royal family will make it difficult for Prince Archie and Princess Lili to have contact with their royal relatives,” Fitzwilliams told Fox News.
He pointed out that the couple’s frequent grievances and bombshell revelations—including those in Harry’s memoir Spare—have widened the gap between them and the rest of the royal family.
“The Sussexes claimed the palace establishment worked against them,” he continued.
“There is no doubt that Meghan [and her sister-in-law] Kate [Middleton] had very different roles and temperaments. [But] the stresses the Sussexes said they experienced and their unhappiness with their roles only intensified. And in ‘Spare,’ Prince Harry personally attacked several influential courtiers.”
Before her marriage to Prince Harry, Meghan was best known as a Hollywood actress, most notably starring in 108 episodes of the USA Network drama Suits from 2011 to 2018.
Many believed that her experience in front of the camera and in the public eye would help her thrive in royal life.
“When Harry married Meghan, it was widely thought that her experience on the red carpet as the star of Suits and her public speaking as a campaigner meant that, stressful though it was, royal life would be easier for her,” Fitzwilliams explained.
“How wrong the pundits were.”

The strain between Meghan and the British press became evident early on, especially around the birth of their son Archie in May 2019.
Meghan’s desire for strict privacy clashed with royal traditions and public expectations.
“Her wish for privacy in the period surrounding Archie’s birth may have been understandable, but meant her relations with the press took a dive,” Fitzwilliams said.
“The Sussexes’ obsession with privacy has subsequently been lampooned since they are so selective.”
Just four months after Archie’s birth, Meghan and Harry publicly expressed their dissatisfaction with royal life during a tour in South Africa.
By January 2020, they had formally stepped down as senior royals, relocating to Southern California.
Since then, the couple has regularly criticized the royal institution through interviews, documentaries, and written accounts.
This is the saddest interview which I have ever seen of Meghan.

Despite Meghan’s recent comments painting a picture of lost dreams and unfulfilled visions of royal motherhood, many see her plight as a consequence of personal choices rather than institutional betrayal.
The consensus among critics is clear: Meghan can reminisce about what could have been, but her and Harry’s continuous public airing of grievances has likely closed the door on any return to royal life.
Their children, Archie and Lilibet, may carry royal titles, but their connection to the family legacy is increasingly distant.
As for Meghan, her version of events may win sympathy in some circles, but for many, her “whining,” as critics describe it, rings hollow in light of the Sussexes’ very public break from tradition.
