Four teenagers have been arrested and released following a violent assault on a 21-year-old woman with an intellectual disability that was caught on video in Wahiawa, a town approximately 20 miles north of Honolulu.

The incident has sparked widespread outrage across the state and drawn intense backlash on social media.

The victim, identified only as Carly, was sitting at a bus stop when she was approached by a group of teens who began taunting her.

The incident, which was recorded and widely circulated online, begins with two of the teens verbally harassing Carly before one of them, 18-year-old Jasmine Keola, tells her to remove her backpack.

Keola then throws the bag to the ground and forcefully slaps Carly’s glasses off her face.

As Carly screams and crouches down, the physical assault continues.

Keola is heard yelling at her, “You dumb f**k.”

Carly, visibly shaken, responds, “This is why I don’t want to take the bus anymore, because I don’t want to mess with you.”

Despite her attempt to walk away, the group follows her across the street.

The beating continues with punches and kicks to Carly’s head as she lies on the ground, unable to defend herself.

During the attack, one of the assailants can be heard shouting, “Now what are you going to do? F**king dumb c**t,” while another girl remarks, “She’s knocked out.”

The footage quickly gained attention online, drawing condemnation from across the community.

Michael Kitchens, founder of the local anti-crime group Stolen Stuff Hawaii, described the attack as more than just bullying.

“This was absolutely cruel. It was more than bullying… it was a senseless, cruel assault and simply pure evil. The girls involved in this should be absolutely ashamed of themselves,” Kitchens said.

“It was one of the worst actions you can take against someone who is unwilling, defenseless, and unfortunately, one who suffers with disabilities. I do not have sympathy for them.”

Local residents took matters into their own hands, livestreaming their search for the attackers on platforms like Instagram Live.

At one point, over 11,000 viewers tuned in as people were seen climbing buildings and tracking down the suspects.

“It’s not right. We’re not bullies ourselves. You shouldn’t bully nobody else, especially someone that can’t stand up for themselves,” said Journey Emond, a student at Leilehua High School, speaking to Hawaii News.

Honolulu police arrested four individuals in connection with the assault: three girls aged 14, 16, and 18, and a 13-year-old boy.

All four were taken into custody but were later released. The case was ultimately dismissed, according to local authorities.

Following a court appearance, Keola apologized publicly during an interview with KHON.

“I got pressured actually to fighting the girl. I didn’t want to fight her. But I did anyway… I’m sorry for what I did. I didn’t mean to do it,” she said.

Keola’s mother also issued a statement expressing remorse.

“I didn’t mean for it to go this far. But I apologize for my children’s actions, and I hope that you guys can forgive my kids.”

Despite the apologies, the community continues to demand accountability and justice for Carly, whose ordeal has ignited renewed concern over bullying, public safety, and the legal system’s handling of violent juvenile offenders.
