Elon Musk’s Right-Hand Man Departs From DOGE

Steve Davis, Elon Musk’s right-hand man at the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), is following Musk out of the White House.

The White House announced Davis’s departure Thursday, The Wall Street Journal (WSJ) originally reported. A White House official confirmed his departure to the Daily Caller.

Davis was a special government employee (SGE), like Musk, allowing him to work on the DOGE efforts and keep his job as CEO of the Boring Co., one of his companies, according to Bloomberg.

SGEs are limited to 130 days of government work any year, Bloomberg reported. The top players at DOGE were approaching their deadline.

Davis handled day-to-day operations at DOGE, such as hirings and firings, according to the WSJ.

Katie Miller, a senior advisor and spokesperson for DOGE at the White House, reportedly left DOGE to work for Musk, three sources familiar told CNN. One source reportedly claimed Miller is working for Musk “full time.”

“Another [source] said she has been helping arrange Musk’s interviews that are unrelated to his time in government,” the outlet reported, noting that Miller was a SGE.

The departures leave the cost-cutting efforts to lower-profile officials in the federal government, Bloomberg reported.

“Anthony Armstrong, who helped Musk buy Twitter as a Banker at Morgan Stanley, and Antonio Gracias, a Musk confidant and CEO of Valor Equity Partners, are also top Musk lieutenants at DOGE,” according to the outlet.

Musk announced his departure from DOGE Wednesday on X.

Shortly after his election victory, Trump appointed Musk to spearhead DOGE to “slash excess regulations, cut wasteful expenditures and restructure Federal Agencies,” according to Trump’s statement. (RELATED: Elon Musk’s Time At DOGE Comes To End)

Although the chief leaders at DOGE are exiting, White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt assured the press that “the entire cabinet” is involved with DOGE’s efforts during her White House briefing Thursday.

“The entire cabinet understands the need to cut government waste, fraud and abuse, and each cabinet secretary at their respective agencies is committed to that,” she stated.

“Surely, the mission of DOGE will continue,” Leavitt added.
