President Donald Trump offered a brief but pointed response Friday when asked about a viral video showing French President Emmanuel Macron being slapped or pushed in the face by his wife, Brigitte Macron, as reported by The Western Journal.
The moment occurred aboard the French presidential plane after it landed in Hanoi, Vietnam.
The footage, which quickly circulated online, shows Macron standing inside the aircraft when Brigitte’s hand makes contact with his face.

While the nature of the gesture remains up for interpretation—whether it was a slap, push, or playful tap—it prompted widespread speculation and commentary.
During a press conference in the Oval Office, Fox News correspondent Peter Doocy asked President Trump for his thoughts on the incident, framing it with a humorous twist:
“Do you have any world leader to world leader marital advice?”

Trump paused briefly, shook his head, and delivered a six-word quip:
“Make sure the door remains closed.”
The remark prompted laughter among White House staff present for the exchange.
Peter Doocy: “This week there was a video on board a plane that showed the First Lady of France slapping her husband, Emmanuel Macron. Do you have any world leader to world leader marital advice?”

“That was not good,” Trump added, referring to the incident.
“No, I spoke to him, and he’s fine. They’re fine. They’re two really good people. I know them very well. And, I don’t know what that was all about, but I know him very well, and they’re fine.”
Macron later addressed the viral footage himself after his arrival in Vietnam on May 26.
Attempting to defuse the speculation, he told reporters, “We are squabbling and, rather, joking with my wife.” He added, “People are saying all sorts of nonsense. Everyone needs to calm down.”
The French president continued, “There’s a video showing me joking and teasing my wife, and somehow that becomes a sort of geo-planetary catastrophe, with people even coming up with theories to explain it.”
Macron also acknowledged the authenticity of the footage while pushing back on broader interpretations. “The videos are all real, and yes, sometimes people tamper with them, but people are attributing all kinds of nonsense to them.”
While the clip received substantial attention internationally, French media largely avoided covering the incident on front pages.
Tech entrepreneur Elon Musk also weighed in on the moment, telling reporters that his own black eye—seen in recent photos—was the result of roughhousing with his young son.
“I wasn’t anywhere near France,” Musk joked, distancing himself from any connection to the Macron moment.
